It’s theater. Nobody cares what the performers look like. It’s acting and singing which matter
It's perfect casting. I, for one, can't tell the difference.
I don’t care either, it’s just the fact that Disney always has to get their quotas in. They can’t just have a play, they have to meddle. The day they make a white girl to play the “Princess and the Frog” lead princess, then we’ll talk.
If you cast Barbara Streisand as the lead for a musical biography of the life of Muhammad Ali, it would look just about as absurd as placing a dark African in a Scandanavian period peace.
*piece
If Disney makes any of these characters blonde girls, I'll eat my computer screen.
It’s “color blind” casting in the theater today, unless the the role is one traditionally played by a person of color...in which case it must be played by someone of the “correct” ethnicity.
Given that the overwhelming majority of characters are white, it’s not as if whites are not represented, so why would it matter so long as the actor or actress has the necessary talent?
This tally-keeping bull crap is liberal group think. Just enjoy the show...it’s not a historical reenactment.
Color-blind casting as such doesn't bother me, but that's not what we have. It's now like reverse racism; actors "of color" can play any part, but white actors can't.
Thoughtomator - this isn't a historical biography. Even a musical on Ali could have Barbara Streisand if it was purely entertainment.
And to Simon Green "t's now like reverse racism; actors "of color" can play any part, but white actors can't. " -- I give you
A white dude playing the part of a brown dude
Or white dudes playing Egyptian gods
A white lady playing the part of a Japanese lady
-
ok, granted, that was a fictional character
Then there is Khan Noonien Singh - suppose of Indian descent but played by the very English Benedict Cumberbatch
In all of these cases there were howls of whitewashing just as goldendelicious is now talking about a black dude playing a white dude.
Ever see King Tuts face? He was Scottish according to dna tests. Moses was a jew. White people in those roles probably accurate.
Sure kid. Cultural (or any kind of) appropriation
is forbidden unless non-whites do it.
Let Disney make an Unfrozen (Thawed) musical
set in the Congo and see the casting.
> In all of these cases there were howls of whitewashing just as goldendelicious is now talking about a black dude playing a white dude.
That’s the point. If a white person plays a non-white role, there’s a huge left-wing backlash every time. And yet at the same time there is a super obvious across-the-board effort by the Left to do what I call “diversity inserts”.
For those woke to it, this nonsubtle jihad to remove all whites from existence is part and parcel of the genocide propaganda of the Left.
2. I could agree if we were talking about a historical figure in a historical movie (as opposed to a musical, fairy tale etc.) -- the outrage over a cartoon character is just idiotic. just as the outrage about "Ghost in the Shell" was
3. There is a backlash about white guy playing non-white guy because Whites are the majority but there are significant non-white people. you don't see this outrage in Poland for instance. It's the same for majorities in other countries. however note that the backlash didn't change anything - the films chose white stars to sell. Similarly any film that wants to sell in China feels the need to add in a Chinese character -- and that makes financial sense.
5. "To remove all whites" is exaggeration really. just as the black outrage is also exaggeration.
Now that was funny.
You're talking about a highly inbred Egyptian pharaoh who died in 1330 BC being a member of a nation that didn't exist until about the 9th century when the Scotti tribe (from Ireland) absorbed the Picts and the Britons of Alt Cluit (Glasgow area)
No, in 1330 BC the Indo-European languages had fairly recently split off and Celtic was still very primitive - it split off from the main IE tongue only around 2000 BC and was concentrated in the Hallstadt area around southernGermany-south-western Poland.
Until Alexander and later the Ptolemaic dynasty, no pharoah was European white - though they were Egyptians who are a branch of Caucasians (just as Indians, Iranians, Arabs, Jews and strangely enough even Aborigines are)
Moses was a Jew, not European - and he probably looked more like Yemeni Jews.
The story isn’t original to the cartoon it’s ripped off from from Hans Christian Andersen. The setting is medieval Northern Europe, a setting that in the real world had few to no Africans in it.
An African actor in such a setting sticks out so awkwardly that it is significantly destructive to suspension of disbelief, and thus to the quality of the overall performance. You may as well cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as Elsa.
There’s only one reason sufficient to overcome the overwhelming production quality reasons not to cast a black actor in that role, and it’s the obvious one we know, the diversity insert reason. This is Broadway, not some community theater.
I don’t think you appreciate just how far the “remove all whites” thing has come. There are more and more of them that are openly genocidal. When they replace whites in white culture, they are not opening new opportunities elsewhere for the people who are replaced. They want white people to go away, AKA die. They openly anticipate and celebrate the day that the America that was 90% white when I was born will be minority white.
This is why they want your guns so bad. They genuinely do want to kill you.
Yet its a ripped off fantasy.
Even the original is a fairy tale, not reality, you can still depict an Andersen FAIRY TALE with black folks in it (a biopic of Andersen on the other hand, no)
You can also case Arnold as Elsa (now THAT I would watch - "I vaz the terminator, now I am the refrigerator..."
America is increasingly getting mixed race - and that was the same with whites -- in the 1800s cartoons in America portrayed Irish as a racial "other". Then Jews were portrayed as "the other" etc.
