The mothers who regret having children
BBC ^ | 04-03-2018 | Jean Mackenzie

Posted on 04/03/2018 8:47:16 AM PDT by Trump20162020

"If I could turn the clock back I would not have had children," says Rachel who is now in her 50s.

She has three children - her youngest is 17 - and for most of this time she has been a single mother, which is when the reality hit her.

"There were times where I didn't feel mature enough to be responsible for somebody, this little person that needed me for their existence," she says.

"It just felt like an endless round of putting a bottle or food in their mouth for it to come out of the other end - and at what point was any of this going to be fun?

"I just felt like screaming that actually it's not all it's cracked up to be. If you're really maternal then that's great you've got everything you've wanted, but when you're not maternal all you've done is trap yourself."

The fact remae had birthed three kids.....assuming out of wedlock isn’t hard since she mentioned no fathers. There was no “we’ to it apart from the sexual act somewhere along the line.

Sorry but I have no empathy for the selfishness of this women who clearly stated one “shouldn’t have to give up their own life for theirs”. Lots of women did and do both.....she just sounds self-centered and entitled wanting the easy way out of what she was into....

Maybe she should have gotten married first and raised all the children together as a family. Or she's the type that would have been miserable whether she had children or not. Take your pick!

"It just felt like an endless round of putting a bottle or food in their mouth for it to come out of the other end - and at what point was any of this going to be fun?

Omg, she had to feed them and clean them! Oh the humanity!

You don’t have to be older necessarily....I’ve been nursing carpel tunnel which is crippling for about three weeks, ....’unrequested’ my son dropped off groceries twice of things he knew I liked.... and as well as two sets of wrist sleeves..... He simply showed up!

A genuinely happy democrat has got to be a rare thing. He sounds like a budding psychopath.

You jump to factually baseless conclusions, assuming morally defamatory things you have no evidence for.

Of course, but please don’t eat it in the classroom: we’ll get ants.

Well ....you cannot say they are baseless...... show your evidence otherwise.

Even animals abandon their young-sometimes they eat them, but I get what you’re saying. Humans have the choice, and the means to avoid childbearing if they want to.

(Raising eyebrows significantly) You're the one who made the statement, it's incumbent upon you to justify it. If your only source of information is the article, there's nothing there to prove (or to disprove) that she had her children out of wedlock. The question of marital status at the time of childbearing is simply not discussed.

Hence, you're without evidence.

I already explained that.....no fathers spoken of or referenced.....Obvious absent or she would not have called herself “single parent”...BTW her words.

Interesting

In the late sixties or early 70s either Dear Abby or Ann Landers asked the question of her readers:

If you had to do it all over again would you have children.

and IIRC over 60% said no.

Your explanation is an imaginative assumption based on something she did not say.

This does not count as evidence.

and so...? That is how I see it based on what she said. The point is she didn’t want to be a mother obviously.

at what point was any of this going to be fun?

Have you ever noticed that FUN has become the highest virtue? If it's not fun, it's not worth doing.

I noticed this when I told someone I was going to paint my porch that weekend and he said, "Well that doesn't sound like fun!"

I thought, "What an idiot!" I had been watching the weather, prepping the wood and looking forward to the task for weeks, knowing how beautiful it would be when I was finished and how satisfied I would feel knowing that I did it all myself.

But fun is the new god apparently.

"The point is she didn’t want to be a mother obviously."

That's right: that was her point.

There's no information or discussion in the article at all, about her marital status at the time she gave birth to those children.
