Academy painters Charles Carolus-Duran and Fritz Zuber-Buhler to Segovia's Bach
YouTube ^

Two of the Academic painters who were at the center of European Academy Art, against which the Pre-Raphaelites and Impressionists were rebelling – Charles Carolus-Duran (1837-1917) and Fritz Zuber-Buhler (1822-1896). The Carolus-Duran paintings are roughly chronological, but Zuber-Buhler seems not to have kept good enough records or dated his paintings, so those are random. Done to Andre Segovia’s Bach – 3 Pieces from Violin Partita No-1, Bourree.

Random thoughts: the woman in the long white dress with cape is a Queen, but she's still standing in front of Carolus-Duran's cheap drapery background; Zuber-Buhler's faces are similar and reminds me of the girls with large eyes we adored in the 60's; Zuhler-Buhler uses a repeating theme of background objects forming a large circle as the last nude with cupids shows it.

Really contrasts with the last piece of Pre-Raphaelite John Everett Millais: https://youtu.be/nYRX0VjlJ9o

Thank you. I only work from CDs I buy, but I remember this piece from an old vinyl recording.

Wonderful! I am not familiar with either artist so it was a treat to see some of their works.

And the choice of music was superb.

The poetess - a feminist avant la lettre?

I have no idea what you’re trying to say, but he is surely one heck of an artist.

A feminist before the word was invented.

Not exactly a find. It takes me days to collect the images, settle on a piece of music and make the video. But, yes, there was a great similarity in the European Academic Art community. Which is why the young turks revolted.

I was raised from babyhood on a book of Academic nudes that mother gave me, that had originally belonged to my grandmother when she studied at the Art Institute. These were two of my favorite artists. The very first book I ever scanned and put online was that book.

Those were two of my favorite artists. I’m currently doing another one, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, and might stay with those artists for a bit. I’ve gone MAD trying to find the right music. Tadema does Roman scenes. So I tried Thomas Tallis. Latin, right? But the religion just struck you too strongly and it WAS ancient Rome, after all. Then I looked at Carimina B., in Latin, but the mood was wrong. I’ve settled on jazzed up Bach, with my fingers crossed.

I’ve got the project set up - after Alma-Tadema - for the surrealists. I’m still in shock that the Art Institute sold my favorite painting - Delvaux’s Island of the Mermaids.

But Klimt WOULD fit into the surrealism video.

Maybe,

But I refer to the amusing picture, the “poetess”,
all into her art while neglecting her family.
