Body found in Chattahoochee is missing CDC researcher

A body pulled from the Chattahoochee River is that of an Atlanta researcher reported missing more than seven weeks ago, Atlanta police said Thursday.

Timothy Cunningham, 35, was last seen Feb. 12 leaving his job at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after telling colleagues he didn’t feel well. Cunningham’s family and police located his keys, wallet, cellphone, vehicle and his beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles, inside his northwest Atlanta home.

In the days after Cunningham’s disappearance, Atlanta police said he had been upset about not getting a promotion, according to the CDC. The CDC later retracted the information, saying that Cunningham had recently gotten a promotion.

I wouldn’t say that black people can’t swim, I taught swimming for years through high school and college. While it’s true that far too many never learn and quite a few have issues with getting their hair wet, I never had a black student who didn’t learn to swim. Floating was another matter though, unless they were heavier. Low body fat means floating is difficult. You reach equilibrium and float eventually but for muscular people with little body fat that equilibrium can be several feet below the surface of the water.

I float below the surface. Swimming is a huge energy sucking thing for me and forget about the “treading water” myth.

Mr. Bojangles won’t sing. But man, can he dance!

It is sad that he died but good for the sake of his family that he was finally found.

Were they marketing that flu vaccine?

I vaguely recall that one or the other Clinton was instrumental in protecting the turf of trial lawyers on the vaccine front.

That is, preventing the limiting of damages on some vaccines, maybe US Gov't-sponsored vaccines. Maybe adding a nickel a dose for a claims pool on the odd lot of people that might have problems with any given vaccine.

To me, one of the absolute saddest statistics is that over 70% of blacks don’t know how to swim.

In Baltimore, several times a year you hear of someone falling into the harbor and dying.

Don’t need to see the picture to know the story. Fall in, give up immediately, die.

This is huge. This guy wasn’t just some average pencilneck at CDC. He was a field research guy, and he’d handled some of the worst of the worst.

His car keys, his wallet, and his dog were all at his home after his dad tried getting hold of him on the phone for a couple of days.

There is something not good here. He was a stalwart. When he came up missing, CDC initially insinuated that he’d been glum about being passed over for promotion (USPHS), and then let it trail off like he killed himself.

They corrected the record when dad complained, and also indicated he had been promoted.

Now they found his body. The issue here is he either tangled with a bug he shouldn’t have been in contact with in the first place, or he was intentionally poisoned.

Either way, CDC just had a $215M facility built for handling level four bugs, and now they are asking for $400M more to REPLACE IT. This last bit after this gent went missing.

Something not good happening here. I’m amazed they found the body, and worse, the people who have are at real risk.

“Wonder if the vic was dead before he entered the water...”

Preliminary indication is that he drowned so ... probably not.

He may have drowned. Is there any proof yet it that it took place in the river? And if so, that the vic self-terminated?

The body was just found so I don’t think a full autopsy has yet been performed.
