I always thought that organizations like the Enquirer did that so they could have exclusive rights to the story if it became news or was determined to be true. Not to spike the story.
But Slick Willy was not a threat to their plans.
When the Enquirer pulls a story because it’s not true you know it is really not true.
It’s mentioned in the article that this is most likely why they made the payment. 30,000 is not much to them if it turns out to be true. As usual, the headlines are misleading.
