‘Tell my mom that I love her if I die,' teen pleads as van seat fatally crushes him

CINCINNATI - Two 911 calls show that a Cincinnati teenager pleaded for help as he was crushed to death by the seat in his van Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot near his school.

Kyle Jacob Plush, 16, was found dead by his father about six hours after he made the first 911 call, according to WCPO in Cincinnati. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that he died of asphyxia due to compression of his chest.

His death was ruled accidental.

“At this time, there is no indication of foul play or evidence of a drug overdose,” Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said in a written statement. “Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Kyle.”

Sammarco’s statement did not offer details of how Plush was crushed, but Honda in November recalled 800,000 Odyssey minivans because the vehicle’s second row seats can tip forward if not properly latched. The recall was for vans from 2011 to 2017.

The cell phone even sent them the exact GPS location.

I don’t understand how that could have happened. So awful and sad.

He screamed he was at seven hills and the dispatcher claimed not to understand him. So put somebody else on the line. I hope that dumb b*tch is fired and has to pay damages in court. I’d write something else about the hiring of 911 dispatchers and other municipal employees being based on criteria other than merit. But that is too close to the truth.

The older I get the less I like today’s cops and their shitty attitude towards law abiding citizens. I’ve watched many youtube videos about what to do if you’re pulled over or if a cop comes to your house. I don’t trust them.

“911 is a joke.”

An un-funny joke. Every time an audio of a 911 call is released to the public you just know that “mean, stupid, and heartless” are requirements in the job description for operators.

We had a terrible incident here in CO several years back with a 9/11 dispatcher not understanding what a steel girder was along the highway. A whole family was wiped out because she didn’t understand what the 9/11 caller was telling her.

Officers who were dispatched when that call ended tried calling him back, but the call went to voicemail.

When they did not get a response, the officers marked their assignment complete, the WCPO timeline said.

I was recently setting up a new VOIP system for a private school here in Texas. During that setup, I called 911 a few times, explaining who I was, and what I was doing. They dispatched an officer, who had to visually verify my ID in person that I was ok, and not being held hostage, etc.

These officers need to be held liable for their “depraved indifference”, as well as what I could easily call “dereliction of duty”.

What a sad story, and prayers for the friends, and family of this young man.

It appears to involve a kid that was disabled or handicapped in some manner. He was climbing over the rear seats to get a tennis racket and ended up head first in the back of the van. This van also features powered stowaway seats that may have been activated somehow.

You are wise to not trust cops.

They are not there to help.

Huh? Isn't the entire point of them being unlatched is that they can tip forward to be removed from the vehicle?

Two calls to 911 and he couldn’t get rescued?

911 is generally pretty useless - I've called into Dallas PD a couple times before when intersection lights were out, and they told me they don't do traffic. Cops that don't direct traffic. The first thing almost anyone (used to) associate with a police officer!!

But, if the kid was able to call 911 and not get help, did he not try calling his parents/friends/anyone else right after? Was 911 the only number he called? Twice?
