I’ve learned that when the trolls come out in force it’s a sign we’re getting close. Sort of like “If you’re taking flak, it means you’re over the target”.
I think trolls are often (not always, but often) trying to distract from something important that is happening or is about to happen.
Secondary reason for them to appear is because they are panicked and lashing out.
Based on the tone of recent trolling, I’d say more of the former than the latter.
