In this age of government-subsidized cell phones provided to anyone even remotely poor, I somehow doubt that this young man needed to knock on anyone’s door because he missed the school bus, and he didn’t need to knock on anyone’s door because he was lost, either, not with geolocation and directions on practically any phone. So, what was he doing? I think I know the answer, and I think the homeowner knew the answer too, that’s why he reacted as he did.

Google maps on my phone works for me in tiny villages in Europe. I can’t believe a 14 year old in Detroit wouldn’t be smart enough to pull out his phone and use that app.

Obviously, he was looking for someplace unoccupied or an open door to quickly grab something and run.

He said his mother had taken his phone.

His story still sounds fishy. I might cut him some slack if he’s Special Ed.

That was my first thought. Why would he go to a house for directions when he could just call? I sense a case in progress and the homeowner sensed the truth.
