Regardless, this story should be a harbinger for parents everywhere:

Monitor your child’s cell phone and social media accounts.

I know.

I grew up near Detroit. We got Canadian TV which is CBC, the website of the article. It’s sort of second nature to me.

Windsor, Ontario, Canada (CA) is actually due south of Detroit. They had a powerhouse top 40 radio station that at one point was the highest rated station in Canada and several US markets across about 8 states.

Their CKLW 20/20 News was legendary for shocking and tight newscasts. I just listened to one of the old ones.

“Accommodations are getting tighter at the Wayne County Morgue as officials stare at those 16 new feet are sticking out of those cold rubber blankets.”

For real. It was a great time to be a kid.

There's a difference between detaining someone at the scene of an attempted crime, and "vigilantism". Of course, 99% of everyone loses any and all ability for rational thought when "child" and "sex" appear in the same sentence, and the actual valid topic will be instantly forgotten and utterly ignored.

They caught someone in the attempted commission of a felony. Letting this be labeled "vigilantism" opens the door for making it illegal for anyone but police to detain felons who are caught in the act.

So, it’s legal for a 28 year old to have sex with a 13 year old girl in B.C.? The police sure don’t seem to give a crap about it.

They didn't have sex. The only crime to prosecute now would be attempted child sex, but the parents may have fouled that up with their eagerness to bait the guy and earn their Virtue Signals.

Canada.

Mom posing to lure him is the colossal screw up, as it would be here.

"S.S.S."

Maybe there should be a STJR (Slow Total Junk Removal) warm-up before the "SSS"...

“Apparently no such thing as “citizens’ arrest” in CA.”.......

Vancouver Island is in Canada NOT Kalifornika.

Those parents will be lucky if they don’t get charge with assault and kidnapping having “zip tied” the victim, thus restraining him........until police arrived.

Another FReeper already pointed out that there probably isn’t much difference.

However, I looked it up before posting:

Gimme 50.

My guess is that someone in law enforcement was in the same pedo ring that the cops are protecting.

"I'm kind of disgusted by the system myself, in that she went in begging for help yesterday," the stepfather said. "She's been asking for help from the police for the last six weeks...

OK, so he's the stepfather because mom and dad got a divorce and mom wient off with this guy, who didn't adopt her, so she is a stepdaughter, not a real daughter. And "she" has been trying to get help, not "we." No wonder this kid is looking for an outside man to look out for her, not old enough to realize she will be out of the frying pan into the fire.

“But it’s ok if the cops do the same thing. She posed as a 13 yr old not as an adult. This guy should be thrown to the grisslies”

Yes, the police have the legal authority to set up stings and arrest people.

Private citizens are taking quite a risk trying that.

He might simply be able to say that he knew it was the mom inviting him over, for example. We don’t know exactly what went on in the texting or chatting, but it most likely wouldn’t hold up in court.

Plus, you are inviting a dangerous person to your house...

Agreed

I am hoping the charges are dropped

As my previous post said I would not have saved this guy for the police. Body would never have been found
