There's a difference between detaining someone at the scene of an attempted crime, and "vigilantism". Of course, 99% of everyone loses any and all ability for rational thought when "child" and "sex" appear in the same sentence, and the actual valid topic will be instantly forgotten and utterly ignored.

They caught someone in the attempted commission of a felony. Letting this be labeled "vigilantism" opens the door for making it illegal for anyone but police to detain felons who are caught in the act.

And "she" has been trying to get help, not "we." No wonder this kid is looking for an outside man to look out for her, not old enough to realize she will be out of the frying pan into the fire.
