In Europe 95 is "regular". The article says we could get 3% better fuel economy. Todays hi-tech engines need hi-tech gas. In order to meet government mandated "performance" We Pay More

How about the government make rules to simplify low fat milk or sodium content?

Don’t get caught up in a liberal issue. To them it’s the indoctrination that counts.

Reasons are totally BS. High compression ratio engines requiring high octane are the major cause of automotive NOx pollution.

It causes more nasty, lung irritating smog generating pollution while cutting back on non-toxic CO2 global warming [sic] "emissions".

This has scam written all over it.

I just read the first sentence and already I know it is a way to soak more money out of the many people who just need ‘regular’.

Meanwhile, I was disappointed to hear Trump talking about going to 15% ethanol. I know he wants to get re-elected, but that’s entirely headed in the wrong direction.

Crony capitalism is crony capitalism.

Raising octane is the next cheapest way to get better fuel economy. I’ve always thought mid-grade a waste of effort.

Get rid of ethanol
Have two grades
Drop the CAFE bs

But no, we are going to end up having some corporate big shot and a bunch of pea brain gimmedat politicians tell us what is good for us.

It would reduce cost producing 1 grade instead of multiple grades. No clue if that would be passed on to the consumer.

Bring back leaded fuels. Better burn, longer engine life.

"Tetraethyllead (commonly styled tetraethyl lead), abbreviated TEL, is an organolead compound with the formula (CH3CH2)4Pb.

TEL is a petro-fuel additive; first being mixed with gasoline (petrol) beginning in the 1920s as a patented octane rating booster that allowed engine compression to be raised substantially. This in turn caused increased vehicle performance (fuel economy).[3][4] TEL had been identified chemically in the mid-19th century, but its antiknock effectiveness was discovered in 1921 by the General Motors research laboratory, which had spent several years attempting to find an additive that was both highly effective and inexpensive. Among those GM also considered was ethanol, which was known to be widely available and inexpensive, but TEL was promoted because it was uniquely profitable to the patent holders and because the oil industry was generally hostile to ethanol.[5]"

Yep, and conveniently, those of us who drive older vehicles would be forced to get new ones. Jagoffs.

Those of us with turbos would be happy enough - those who only need regular might bitch a bit....

3% better fuel economy

For upwards of %10 to 20% increase in cost. Give me a 62 VW beetle please.
