I’ve been wondering if pit bulls are really that much worse than other dogs, or if the news I’m getting creates a false impression.
One can’t deny that there are a lot of stories about pit bull attacks. More even than Rottweilers or Dobermans.

Interesting question. I began to research the issue some time ago for reasons of my own, and the more I looked, the more I found, and the larger the subject became.

I was in Maryland 2 weeks ago to pick up a truck I bought, upon arrival and stretching out at the marina where the truck was out of nowhere a Pit jumped on my 13 year old Jack Russell and was immediately kicked off my dog by my friend who was with me before it could bite my dog.
My dog has been attacked 2 times in his life both by a Pit Bull, I don’t trust them for 2 seconds!
Because pit bulls should be outlawed. Period.
Please do not defend them or attack me. You know I am right.
I'm not part of the fetish, but I do know the answer.
Pit bulls kill 12-15 human beings per year in the USA. Most of the dead are very young or very old.
Since 1982, pit bulls have killed more than 500 human beings.
Since 1982, mass shooters with semi-automatic rifles have killed 300 humans, and that includes the 58 people murdered by the Las Vegas shooter about six months ago.
Too funny - Pits have a rep for “suddenly going vicious” - not talking about it is akin to deciding we shouldn’t prosecute so many minorities because it ain’t fair to them even though they commit most of the crimes.....
Because persons persist in exposing the public to these horrible animals.
Pit bulls are ugly and vicious. Two shots to the head and still needed to be euthanized.

It may be time to classify pit bulls as similar to Lions as pets. A crazy chihuahua is one thing. A crazy pit bull is a completely different thing.
I used to be one of those “it’s the owner” people. Now, when I find out someone I know owns a pit bull, they go down a few notches in my book. Kinda like finding out a pretty girl has a butterfly tattoo (tramp stamp) on her lower back. I just see them differently.

Why don’t you read about the number of human ER visits due to pit bulls vs any other dog type?
In my opinion as a retired veterinarian, all pit bulls should be eradicated period. They are much too unpredictable and unable to be controlled when out of control which happens much too frequently.
Seems to me there are several factors here. Pit bull dogs are very popular, coupled with the number of people who lack responsibility, just as this dog owner displayed by disappearing, it is inevitable there will appear to be large numbers of attacks. Rottweiler, German Shepherds, Dobermans were all more popular during certain times and there appeared to be large amounts of attacks during those times also by those dogs. A web search of “pit bull saves” shows just as many acts on the other end of the spectrum by pit bull dogs.
