Food Lion has introduced in-store helper Marty the Robot at a store in La Follette, TN. These helpful robots are currently in four Giant/Martin’s stores in Pennsylvania and the brand plans to deploy them to all 171 Giant/Martin’s stores by the end of 2018.
These friendly robotic associates have been roaming the aisles of several Giant/Martin’s stores since last year, and now Food Lion is also putting the concept to the test. Marty maneuvers around using advanced artificial intelligence and the same laser imaging technology found in self-driving vehicles. He can perform checks that help the store run more smoothly and safely for both customers and associates.

Food lion is horrible. Giant or publix are the only decent grocery stores.
I appreciate that Marty is armed with a laser and can disintegrate shoplifters.
There go a few jobs that a few human beings could have used to pay the bills and get more out of life. Oh well. The bottom line often rules.
Whats so horrible about them? Do they say “FU” when you come in or sell severed human parts in the aisles? A grocery store is a grocery store. I talk to no one and just grab my stuff, pay, get out.
Haven’t been in a Food Lion in awhile, because of geographic relocation. So far as I know they are still very anti-union. One reason why I used to give them my patronage.

The future job is not flipping the GD burger but servicing the robots who will replace the workers of mundane jobs.
Grocery stores will be a thing of the past before too long. Everything will be delivered by drone or robot for a cheaper price.

I’m not a lazy guy and only use Postmates/ or delivery people if I have guests or tired but I rarely get tired. More often I get annoyed and pissed off the food isnt here within 15 minutes and I’m in Hollywood. It works if you are in a far away ranch, physically disabled or something similar.
Will grocery stores be a thing of the past? Maybe. Then again, some jokers 100 years said we would have flying cars and we would colonizing planets by now...
Looks like Marty won’t get any bigger since he can’t eat the food. The others in the pic need to stock shelves more it appears.
