“Whom do I trust?”
First, the old addage: “Know thyself.” With that, there are times and situations that I recoil from, because i know thyself.
Second, ‘there is another’. Just ONE other human being, who shall remain mysterious.
Third, in all things political, at all levels, skepticism rules, at different levels.

>>> My additional comment is never never never hire or trust a financial advisor.
>>> Learn what you need to learnnever depend on an outsider.
I’ll have to add that to my list.
A year and a half ago, the financial services guy at the bank tried to steal my IRA. I went in to a different bank branch because it had Saturday hours and wanted to set up an automatic withdrawal process, because I was close to the age of mandatory withdrawal. The bank officer could not find my money. I went home and brought back 4 years worth of monthly statements. A different bank VP made copies, and it took her 2 months to find my cash. The financial advisor had shuffled my money through 7 different banks, insurance companies, credit unions, etc. in his efforts to abscond with my cash. I did get it back though, but it took 6 months total, and the bank’s financial guy did get arrested and is currently a guest in the state’s penal system.
Trust no one. Family and friends will be the first to rat you out.
As it is now, there are only a couple of elected officials I sorta trust: Louis Gohmert and Donald J. Trump.
Fwiw, prior to the 2016 election, I thought we were done. I had given up on US and had more or less resigned my self to riding out the clock, hoping for the best while preparing for the worst.
But just look at how far we, the people, have come in such a short time!!!
As far and near as I can tell, POTUS and Team Trump are the too good to be true American Miracle I dared not let my self wish for.
Im hearting on Trump BIG time these days.
Trust is a large issue, IMHO. Do we trust Democrats? Do we trust Republicans just because they are Republicans? No. We do not trust society implicitly, and for that reason we reluctantly accept the need for (limited) government:SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.Conservatives are skeptical of society and skeptical of government.Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built upon the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him, out of two evils to choose the least. Wherefore, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows that whatever form thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others. - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)
Socialists are cynical towards society - who else but a cynic equates a blessing (society) with a necessary evil (government)? And because they are cynical towards society it is impossible that they should also be cynical about what is, in the sense Paine puts it, the opposite of society - government. Socialists are not cynical about government, they are naive about the ability of government to do good without significant evil consequences.
Wisdom is also not being too sure that you are wise.Consider also
- sophist
- 1542, earlier sophister (c.1380), from L. sophista, sophistes, from Gk. sophistes, from sophizesthai "to become wise or learned," from sophos "wise, clever," of unknown origin. Gk. sophistes came to mean "one who gives intellectual instruction for pay," and, contrasted with "philosopher," it became a term of contempt. Ancient sophists were famous for their clever, specious arguments.
- philosopher
- O.E. philosophe, from L. philosophus, from Gk. philosophos "philosopher," lit. "lover of wisdom," from philos "loving" + sophos "wise, a sage."
"Pythagoras was the first who called himself philosophos, instead of sophos, 'wise man,' since this latter term was suggestive of immodesty." [Klein]
The natural disposition is always to believe. It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity, and they very seldom teach it enough. The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing. - Adam Smith, Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759)

I forgot... it was a dark and stormy night, the seas were rough, and I was really really really really really drunk on some very bad moonshine...
REALLY bad moonshine...
A Sage once said to me:
“Trusteth Not In The Ways of Men... trusteth, insteadeth, in the Way of Woodeth and Steeleth and Polyresineth”.
-Book of Hale, Page 6, verse 7.62.
And there was a lot of “yea” and “verily” in there too, but I forgot that stuff...
(Whom: objective case.)
I trust the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not entirely trust anyone else - myself included.
The simplistic “Trust Sessions (or whomever)” attitude is not truly conservative. The Founders predominantly believed in the fallen nature of humankind - hence limitations were placed on central power.
Everyone has his own agenda, and own perspective. It is almost certainly not unified with yours.
Citing Sessions, given the current situation, ask Flynn, Manafort, and Cohen how happy they are to be cannon fodder in Jeffy’s supposed 3D/4D/ND Chess lawfare.
It is leftists, not rightists, who place absolute utopian trust in fallible human beings.
I have been in ministry. I found that wisdom is no longer cultivated or valued. On the left, mindless feelings, on the right, soulless doctrine, are what are valued.
Both emphases lead to error, but the source of the error is no longer understood.
What fraction of what you think you know to be true, is actually false? Can you give me an estimate?.
The great manipulators and liars sit in the empire of the old media. Kill your television.
