I teach and my insurance costs $250 a month, just for me. If I were to include my family in my insurance plan it would be a little over $950 per month. I’ve never heard of teachers getting 100% free insurance. Would I like to be paid more? Of course. Who wouldn’t? I’m not protesting at the state capital though. We don’t unionize in my state either. so the notion that all teachers are beholden to the NEA is also false. For a site that is about individual liberty and responsibility a lot of people sure love to lump all teachers into on big group to be hated.

Who’s hating? Public unions are a menace. Either teachers are ignorant of this, in which case they’re too stupid to be teaching, or they’re on board with extorting taxpayers, in which case they deserve what they get.

I agree in that the unionized, do nothing, know nothing teachers with bennies out the wazoo are mostly in BLUE states; namely public schools.

My son has a math degree and teachers certification for the People’s Republic of NY. All the old teachers won’t leave as it is similar to congress critters. They can take unlimited sabbaticals and still expect their job to be there when the return.

My daughter in law teaches at a PRIVATE school and there is a world of difference!!

Does your school system get money from “The Feds?”

Did your school system sanction the “grass roots” ant-gun walkout?

If you answer “yes” either of these questions, the NEA/Democrat Party/Globalists have significant control over education in your school system.

My husband was a teacher for 24 years, left teaching to start his own business.

I don’t know where this myth of great benefits began, but his were awful. When Obamacare first began affecting people’s insurance rates I heard many call in to a radio program giving examples of how much more they were paying for less coverage. We’d been paying even more than their new rates for even less coverage for years. I was stunned at how awful our insurance had been compared to others.

As for retirement, we couldn’t wait to pull out what he had paid into TRA (forced Ponzi scheme for teachers) and open an IRA. After 24 years of “investing” he got back less than he contributed.

Most teachers aren’t underpaid for what they do; science and writing teachers put far more time into prepping and correcting than others (my dad was a chemistry and physics teacher) so they might be. Coaches, however, are grossly underpaid yet it helps supplement a 72% salary. With coaching and teaching my husband worked about a minimum of 60hours/week (football) to around 75 + (wrestling). Plus there are weeks of unpaid time for camps and all the rest in the summer. That used cut into his summer construction income.

When I used to talk with other young moms, I couldn’t believe how much time they had with their husbands. They were home for supper most nights and on all day on Saturdays. I was jealous!

Hubby is a retired firefighter. They do the same thing to them. I just ignore all the comments.

So is it very different state by state? Can you tell me the minimum requirements as for education in the US. As I said my wife is a teacher now in CAnada, working as a sub. Things are not as golden as I use to think. In our province starting wage for UNION GOVERNMENT positions is $48,000. But getting a government teacher position is a long shot as she lacks the seniority. She is looking at the catholic schools who start at a meager $38,000. To put that in perspective if she got full time work at the grocery store she works nights at she would make $52,000 a year. (albeit, she has seniority and it is a union outfit). The private protestant school she also wants to apply at even starts at LESS than $38,000!!!. Convert all that into US dollars and it really is not that great.

One of my kids is a teacher as well. His experience is that he transferred into a state where he was not originally certified right at the time of a Republican takeover. HIs salary was locked down for most of the last ten years, his pension partial vesting took ten years, his insurance was high and he paid for it and he will probably never again vote R.

Yes it is true that he came into the state where teachers had politically abused their power. But is rectifying that, newer teachers were overly penalized because the older teachers already had their benefits locked in.

He is a dedicated professional recognized repeatedly as a top teacher by districts, students and peers.
