And as someone who had an 8.4 Kw photovoltaic system on my 2400 sq/ft, nearly all electric, home in southern Arizona, I highly suggest that the average consumer stay away from solar. In 2009 the total system cost 62K and in the sunniest spot in the US, that system will only produce about 45K worth of electricity in a 20 year lifecycle. At that time there were plenty of federal, state and local tax incentives and that’s why I did it,....someone else paid for most of it. I was out of pocket about 12K. All that being said, any alternative energy is much more costly than your local electric company.
