We bought a box of ear plugs in anticipation of going to a rock concert a while ago. Trust me; they dim noise not at all. We live too close to a major interstate highway and sometimes I can’t sleep because of the noise. I thought those earplugs would take the edge off. They did not. So I’d never worry about not hearing intruders or threats.

Maybe they didn’t fit you. I think you’d get better results with proper use of good earplugs.
