The USPS is in doldrums because it is a strange public-private company. They can't shrink, they can't change prices without acts of Congress (which never happen) and they have a mandate to deliver at lowest cost

at the same time their business model is destroyed.

The secret to getting out is to follow what Deutsche Post did -- it merged into DHL (which was a subsidiary) and sold off Postebank to DeutscheBank
