I posted an article about this when it happened and there was a lot of suspicion that it may have been robbery and murder.

It appears the suspicion is confirmed.

Investigators initially said the pair appeared to have lost control on a winding mountain road. But after it emerged that Chmielewski had suffered a gunshot wound and appeared to have had a foot chopped off, a special prosecutor was appointed to take over the case.

I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable alternative explanation as to why he had a gunshot and how his foot was chopped off.

Twenty or Thirty or perhaps even 40 years ago traveling around the world on the bicycle must have been relatively safe. Those days are gone.
