I have had so many surgeries I have become somewhat resistant to anesthesia when pushed into the IV. I can feel it burn, taste it in my mouth, and after recovery I can tell the doctor what was qued up as the second tune on the CD player. I know my orthopedic guy likes Barry White.

Important not to shake public confidence in lousy doctors, but instead blame personal behavior as the reason for poor outcomes.

Guilty of being a poor surgeon? Yes. But we cannot discuss that so we go down another road. Sound familiar?

I kind of agree with both of you...I don’t mind if a surgeon has lousy bedside manner or is off-key in surgery as long as they do a good job.

I wouldn’t clown around in any way professionally like that person (she sounds excessive, and that is bad) but if I was laying on a table and all the preliminaries are out of the way and done professionally and accurately, and right before the surgeon cuts they sing some little ditty or recite a limerick

There once was a surgeon from Kent
Whose skills were thought heaven sent
When he stuck in the knife
He would sing “What A Life”
While proceeding to earn all his rent

I could live with that. But if you screw up even once because your “personality” is more important than the patient or your job...you’re out.
