FULL TITLE: Two families are fighting to keep their sons on life support at Philadelphia children's hospital despite doctors insisting both are brain dead

Two families have now gone to court to keep their sons on life support at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Anna and Jonathan Auyeung filed for a temporary restraining order in Common Pleas Court on Wednesday to keep their 10-year-old son Jayden alive.

It comes less than a month after Rumpa Banerjee was granted the same order to keep her 14-year-old son Areen Chakrabarti on life support.

Jayden, who suffers from a genetic motor neuron disease, was rushed to the hospital after a mucus plug developed in his throat and blocked his airway.

He was placed on life support at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick before being transferred to CHOP, where he has been treated for years.

It was there that Jayden was declared brain dead after suffering cardiac arrest.

Anna said that Jayden moves his fingers, legs, and mouth when she and Jonathan touch or talk to him.

They are cutting corners. Same with the medical schools. They are not turning out doctors like they used to. There was a day when the Hippocratic Oath was sacred. A lot of things are being thrown into the trash can today.

An inordinate amount of tax dollars goes to killing nascent life, but when resources are required for these desperate corner cases, the bloated bureaucracy makes it impossible. The rotten fruits of mediocrity.

Indeed.

We know the symptoms and aggregates, but we need to figure out the source of the problem and destroy it.

“We know the symptoms and aggregates, but we need to figure out the source of the problem and destroy it.”

We know the source. Socialism. If you want care, but want someone else to pay that is also a moral question. You cannot seriously posit a moral argument and leave out the morality of expecting others to pay for care you want.

You don’t really want a solution if you only look at part of the moral equation. What you call conveniently “resources” is money taken from people by force. Not some endless bucket of money that needs only to be spent morally.

Socialism in healthcare payment is why these boys are alive, and also why some want them to die.

I pay upwards of $20k a year in health care premiums. I hope you’re not challenging the excessive resources I’m contributing to a broken system.

My heart goes out to the parents....but we only know a few “facts” to surmise the rest from....most Children’s Hospitals seem to be good at caring for the children....God knows and being with Him may not seem like a good idea to the parents but the children would be ecstatic in His presence...Prayers up that the children get what God would want for them.

Interesting that both cases are in Philly/PA.

And that the DM is making this an issue. Running interference for the NHS...?

Are both families American citizens?

And are we talking removal of life support, removal to a skilled nursing facility where the kids would be a lot less likely to contract a nasty nosocomial infection, or do they meet the criteria for brain death? If it’s the latter, then the kids don’t need life support.

It’s not “Obamacare”. Well, maybe these people are paying their bills using that mechanism, but it does not matter who is paying their bills.

Unless THEY are paying the hospital and the doctors with their own money, then they are asking someone else to do it. In this case, it’s probably the taxpayers of New Jersey.

And, at some point (I’m not taking a position on whether THIS is the point), someone who works for the taxpayers of New Jersey should be asking if they are getting value for money.

Are you asking for something you are not paying for?

Do these boys meet the medical criteria for brain death?

If so, the story here is that the parents are in strong denial, not that untoward medical decisions are being made.

I think it is very important to understand the true details of each case, and not to jump on the bandwagon every time one of these situations comes up. Whenever the prolife movement jumps in on one of these cases where the medical professionals are actually correct, the anti-life ghouls use that as an example of how prolifers are kooks.

I say, don’t give anti-life radicals any ammunition. Be very clear about the nuances of the medical situation before getting riled up.

At this point, I have no information on these two boys. Hence, my question: are they medically determined to be brain dead, or is the term “brain dead” being used by ignorant reporters who have no clue that a coma is not “brain dead” but is, instead, “brain stunned.”

The medical schools are teaching what Obamacare requires. The medical schools are now turning out doctors who started the schools after Obamacare was enacted. The young doctors are conditioned to follow Obamacare rules, like for instance ‘maybe you should just take a pain pill’ (perhaps Obamacare rules are part of the opioid crisis?). The ‘ethics’ that newly minted young doctors have been taught are not the same ‘ethics’ of yesteryear.

The thrust of the responses seems to be that healthcare is not socialized enough. Go figure.

Medical ethics have never, ever taught that other people (taxpayers) should be made to pay for everything that anyone wants.

Sad, but I suspect it is accepted as the ‘right thing to do’ now. The newer generations are not steeped in love for their country, nor the freedoms they enjoy here. Most Americans have NO IDEA how lucky we are to live here. They should have to experience the norms of a Socialist country, before doing everything they can to destroy our country.

Seems to me the average FReeper response in these cases is “Keep them alive at all costs”. Well, then who’s cost? And if it’s “everybody’s” cost, then how is that not socialized medicine?
