ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Following the arrest of an Elkton man who deputies said threatened a group of Egyptian exchange students with a switchblade and a stun gun at a St. Augustine McDonald's, his estranged son sat down with News4Jax on Friday.
Seth Smith reached out after deputies said his father, 60-year-old John Jay Smith, used him as an excuse for the dispute that unfolded early Wednesday outside the McDonald's on U.S. 1.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, John Smith told the four exchange students, who said they are Muslims, "Get out of my country. You do not deserve to eat here."
Once in custody, John Smith told deputies, "They killed my son. My son was a Marine," according to his arrest report. The report said John Smith went on to talk about "how his son died in Afghanistan while in combat with the Marine Corps."

Very sad situation. I can see where the father is coming from.
Glad I live in the woods here in Northern WI.
And the youpers are nothing like them!

“...I can see where the father is coming from...”
What? By saying his son was killed in Afghanistan when his son is alive? The father is mentally ill at best and white trash at worst.
Seth Smith said he is an Army veteran who survived three tours of duty in Iraq, and he hasn't spoken to his father since 2009."
Before you get too wound up consider the fact that it is possible for a man to have more than one son.
We Floridians are glad you do too
“Before you get too wound up consider the fact that it is possible for a man to have more than one son.”
Exactly.
It could be that John Smith had two sons both named Seth Smith, who were both in the military, and knew nothing of each other’s existence.
I have dual citizenship. I’m a Cheezehead and a Yooper. Ole Wah!
What? The father uses a lie to justify his threatening this group and you can sympathize with that or at least see the fathers point of view?
Sounds like his son IS dead to him...
Really? You can see where the father is coming from? Falsely claiming his son is dead to try to garner sympathy?
Anyone in Afghanistan is a volunteer.
If he were black the media would be outraged.
Interesting that this outlet ran that son’s (Seth Smith) defense of his Dad. During the Zimmerman trial some TV stations were picking up on State Rep Wilson’s inflammatory remarks which resulted in attacks by black gangs on anybody who wasn’t black wandering through “the hood”. Were your around when that happened and do you remember how they reported on that episode ?
“Interesting that this outlet ran that sons (Seth Smith) defense of his Dad.”
How is he defending his dad?
Ok. What does that have to do with what I said?
