Gym heads and jocks may hiss with envy when they see this giant cat with its power paws, enormous shoulders and post-workout swagger.

The furry feline was filmed prowling around the streets of Montreal, Canada and it has built up a dedicated cult following.

Buff cat had such an impact on those who saw him that someone set up a Twitter account in his honour which has amassed 14.7k followers.

Some people suggested on Twitter that the cat is morbidly obese and perhaps Buff Cat needs to spend a more time on the treadmill, and less time slurping up protein shakes.

I think there’s a pet obesity epidemic developing parallel to the human obesity epidemic.

Wow. He’s even bigger than the late, lamented Skeeter Duffy.

Nah, that cat’s eating enough for three or four kitties. Can’t see how anyone would describe him as “buff.” I have a friend with two obese cats, and “Buff Cat” is definitely in that category. That “swagger” comes from trying to lug around his over-sized belly.

Here’s what I find ironic about it.

We had a cat named Buff - we got him from a work acquaintance of my wife when he was about 1 year old.

We started calling him buff cat, or buddy cat within a few months of acquiring him.

Buff was not heavy by any stretch and was pretty healthy, but was always skinny. He had a lot of health issues later in life and we had to put him down last November when he was just about 19 years old. At that time he was about 7 pounds, probably 1/2 pound of that was a tumor in his gut (the poor guy).

It was hard to let him go - regardless of it being the right thing to do and it ending what was probably as much suffering as any other feeling he probably had. I could tell he wanted to stay with us on the one hand, but was relieved to not feel any more pain as well.

So a skinny cat named Buff in response to an article about a fat cat nicknamed buff cat and your response to the article about a feline obesity epidemic.

I have one cat that’s pushing maximum density. i don’t overfeed them, so I finally figured out why. After the time change, my other cat wanders off on his daily rounds before I put out food. She’s been eating two breakfasts!

Just an extra can of catfood. I guess when your day consists mainly of sleeping, it adds up. She seems to think her job is to keep the front porch from flying away by sleeping on it.

Buff is the new word for fat????

We had a Yellow cat that weighed 28 lbs in his prime. No fat, he was just big and could knock a black lab off his feet in one blow. Not sure he was all cat as he looked more like a Bobcat.
