I remember a former third army guy who fought in WW2 from my home town. He said they refered to De Gaulle as Big Nosed Kate...that was Doc Holidays whore girlfriend if you didnt know.
In the early 60’s my late uncle was in an airborne unit in France at some point and had to serve in an honor guard for De Gaul and he said he was the most arrogant ahole he encountered in his whole life. He served as aid to General Westmoreland before Vietnam.
I have another friend who was in the army in France near the German border and the frogs told the army they were going to tax the soldiers because they lived in France and the general said the hell you will and within 30 days they were moved a couple of clicks across the border into Germany. He despised the French.
