Muskogee man dies after playing with gun he thought was unloaded

Han Howard, a former smoke shop employee who lived in Muskogee but was from Oktaha, died Thursday night after a gun he was playing with went off, according to two sources in the Muskogee Police Department.

The sources, who asked to not be identified by name, said Howard had been on a date, and as the evening was winding down, he started playing with a revolver. He apparently opened the revolver and emptied out the bullets, but one bullet stayed in, without his knowledge, the police said.

Howard then allegedly began to play Russian Roulette with the pistol, which he thought he had emptied. On the third trigger pull, the bullet that had escaped his attention fired, mortally wounding him.

No funeral home or service have yet been announced.

--- bullet that had escaped his attention fired,

--no--his booger hook pulled the bang-thingy, firing the gun , the chamber of which contained the cartridge containing the "bullet"---

The family has to stick with that story for the life insurance.

Sad but true.

Just goes back to what my mother told me as a child. “Empty guns are in some ways more dangerous than a loaded gun”.

"Therefore, just the same, don’t you meddle with old unloaded firearms; they are the most deadly and unerring things that have ever been created by man. You don’t have to take any pains at all with them; you don’t have to have a rest, you don’t have to have any sights on the gun, you don’t have to take aim, even. No, you just pick out a relative and bang away, and you are sure to get him. A youth who can’t hit a cathedral at thirty yards with a Gatling gun in three quarters of an hour, can take up an old empty musket and bag his grandmother every time, at a hundred."

I have two safety rules that IMO cover all gun safety issues:

1. There is no such thing as an unloaded gun.

2. Never point a gun at a person unless you intend to shoot him.

One thing that really pisses me off is when someone does point a gun at me thinking it’s unloaded. The urge to take it away and beat him senseless with it is overwhelming.

“playing” with a gun is like “playing” with a table saw or playing with a chainsaw ... only something a fool would even think of doing ... all of those things are very dangerous tools and always require a zen-like focus to safely use ...

All guns are loaded.

Even empty one.

The insurance company will want to know how they know he didn’t know when he isn’t able to say if he knew.

It won’t be easy for the family to collect. But, you plant the story and stick to it and force the other side to disprove it. Same as for the Dindunuffins and the criminal justice system.

well you should move to DC. The only folks with guns point them at you knowing that they are loaded and have every intention of shooting you either a. if you don't hand over enough stuff to make them happy or b. piss them off or c. they just feel like shooting something.

Supreme Court "shall issue" orders - just some deplorable's opinion.

Rule number one of gun ownership. Treat EVERY gun as if it is loaded. First thing I learned about guns when I was a child.
