And how do you define “perceived effort levels?” Just because you put more time into it doesn’t mean the product is better than one who has a higher natural ability.

the WHOLE point of the article, for anyone who actually read it, is that women get discouraged with STEM studies because even when they put all their efforts into it, "following the rules" their efforts are lumped in with those people who don't...

when they get discouraged, they question why even be in STEM.. ones work is not rewarded..

by "following the rules" I mean they attend class on a regular basis, do all the homework, the research, the projects all on a timely basis...IOWS...take their classes seriously...

it has to be discouraging to see Joe 12 pack sloshing thru classes when he attends and managing to pass as well...
