From the polarizing "Ghostbusters" remake to the controversy over female versions of James Bond and Doctor Who, Hollywood's proclivity for gender-swapped retreads is among its most enduring and contentious.
The trend -- seen as empowering or annoying, depending on who you ask -- is getting fresh attention with "Ocean's 8" due for release on Friday, "Overboard" still in theaters and "What Men Want" coming out in January.

Also, the show “Elementary” on CBS, is a Sherlock Holmes inspired series, in which Dr. Watson is a woman.
The Batley Townswomen's Guild Presents the Battle of Pearl Harbour
The Guns of Navarrone with an all female cast? I like it!
Do Holmes and the female Watson share living quarters at 221B?
I don’t know. I’ve never seen the show, just have heard the gender swap they did on Dr. Watson.
That one works pretty well, but they give the Watson character too much attention. I haven’t watched it since CBS switched off the free live streaming for the most recent episodes (same with Big Bag, and a couple of others). Oh, and **** SeeBS.
How about a remake of 7 brides for 7 brothers with 7 husbands for 7 sisters.
They've introduced a new black male character.
I have no problem with a new character, but the trailer makes it seem as if he will be the main focus of the movie and the Incredibles will become the Peripherals.
You mean "Frozone"? He was a major character in the first Incredibles.
Overboard, which this is being remade was a remake of a really fun Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell movie. THAT movie was a remake of a fabulous Italian movie called Swept Away by an Unusual Destiny in the Blue Sea of August, directed by the great Lina Wertmuller. (Madonna attempted to remake THAT version with almost career ending results) The point of the original SWEPT AWAY was that women are only at their happiest when they are subservient to men. It drives liberals crazy because it was made by a woman director. It’s kinda brutal and a really honest look at gender roles and class distinctions. If you ever want to see a great movie, just rent the Italian movie. I own the Goldie Hawn version because it’s just a fun ROMCOM. I wouldn’t see the new one if you paid me.
The Force Awakens was also a gender-swap remake. Plotwise it is nearly identical (94% by one count) to A New Hope, with the plot points in the same order as well.
Looks like a remake of Revenge of the Nerds, but with ugly fat chicks instead.
Oceans 8 seems like a potential flop.
Hollywood makes films to promote the leftist agenda. They do not make films to entertain. The story line is designed to get you interested in it, and to do the required suspension of disbelief. You are then susceptible to the message that is being delivered by means of the story line. Any entertainment value is incidental, and is secondary to the primary purpose of the film.
C19, it was right there for you! So I’ll jump on this one:
The LGBT remake of the Magnificent 7?
The FABULOUS 7...
