PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Eagles players and officials made individual decisions to not go to the White House for a scheduled celebration of their Super Bowl title, leaving two players actually planning to make the trip to Washington before the visit was canceled by President Donald Trump, according to players and a person familiar with the arrangements.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because of the sensitivity of the issues.
All-Pro center Jason Kelce said players filled out forms anonymously indicating whether they wanted to go to the White House, not make the trip or go to Washington and do something else.
"It's a little bit disappointing as a country right now that we're so divided, I think that's the bigger disappointment," said Kelce, who became a folk hero in Philadelphia for an impassioned, profane rally speech he gave after a day of antics during the city's Super Bowl parade.
The players did not urge a collective decision on what to do as a team, giving each player his own option of whether to take the trip.

There was a Reddit thread days ago that was pulled recently that got a lot of hits. I saw it. The reason why Trump pulled the plug because there were a couple of aholes on that team who were going to pull a stupid stunt. Apparently, there were a number who was told of the plan and got word to their connections in the WH. The Reddit user was supposedly working in the Eagles office.
If they don’t want the country to be divided they should have attended as a team. Bunch of spoiled liberal babies are they afraid the president would disagree with them? Screw them and Joe Lockhart at the NFL who releases anti Trump statements as the DNC operative he is.

When President Coolidge was informed that George Halas and the Chicago Bears would be visiting the White House the President said “Oh good. I like animal acts.” President Coolidge had his priorities right.
He looks like a scrawny really old guy with a woman’s wig on. At least he does in the last concert video from Australia. I’m guessing he looks older now.

The Players union president and other players on the Eagles threatened people not to show up.
I never liked the eagles when all their albums were being released. I saw them as country, and I hated country.
But in the late 90’s that all changed. Heck, I even joined a few country bands. And then I saw their DVD’s and became a huge fan. They are absolutely pro from the git-go.
So I was late to the party.

Welcome! As a long-time Cowboys fan, I almost dumped them when Jones shafted Tom Landry, but I was really done with them when Jones knelt on the field with his thug players. I haven’t watched any NFL since this whole thing started.
I am also a diehard Eagles fan and the Super Bowl win was one of the greatest moments in my life as a Philadelphia sports fan. That being said, that is now tarnished and the Eagles as a team makes me sick. The NFL was garbage with the rules changing and now the politics have killed the sport.
Otherwise, no one goes into the US President’s presence, no matter who the President is and no matter who the invited “guests” are!
Imagine the work and cost in putting this together and now we’re supposed to be OK with that, no matter who the petulant multi-millionaires are!
I’m definitely NOT OK with that huge waste of my tax dollars, no would I ever be.

Did the white players stay away as they didn’t want retaliation from the overwhelming amount of black players on the team?

Only two? - I don’t believe it - Coach Peterson said yesterday he was looking forward to the trip, and I’d bet money both Foles and Wentz at least were set to go - eighty people were supposedly cleared to attend over the weekend - that’s sure a lot of sudden mind-changing that needs some big ‘splainin’......
