RE: I went to #9 back in the 80’s, it had problems then. They are worse now.

Aren’t they located near the high crime area of the city?

It depends on what you define as close

I was there last month

University of Chicago is I don’t know maybe a mile or so from the worst south side shooting precients

It’s gentrifying all around it

Pretty school

Chicago has four or five leafy gothic Ivy League looking colleges ...three on the north shore area alone

I wish my son could go there...it’d be a good excuse to go to Chicago a lot

I love Chicago

People are friendly and downtown is manageable and beautiful girls

Aren’t they located near the high crime area of the city? Yes. I don't recommend going west of Cottage Grove, south of 63rd or north of 51st. East is Lake Michigan.

Actually, I always defined 4 no go zones, guys/day, guys/night, girls/day, girls/night. So for the ladies at night It is Ellis Avenue instead of Cottage Grove, and 53rd instead of 55th, and the Midway Plaisance (60th) instead of 63rd. There was a little gentrification south of 60th, so the boundary has expanded, and the Institute of Christ the King is located there ... a serious upgrade over both St. Thomas the Apostle on 55th and especially over the Jebbie's Calvert House.
