Yes, not boring at all.
Have you done anything to find the answers to your questions?
Just boring old wiki on GPR.
Could be, maybe, possibly... 15M?
Design speed >100MPH, = very long raduis turns.
Unless you want to ride high in the turns?
Slick bore (no casing) distance is dependent on soil and safety. Not far.
The machine used in Seattle is ~60’ diameter and > 300’ in length.
No U-turns allowed!

Why don’t you post your concerns to Musk’s Twitter feed? He does read and respond. Maybe he didn’t think to check Wiki.
Every alderman and newspaper stand will want a stop at their corner.
Not the way to run a railroad.
Also, do not overlook the ‘Friends of the Earthworms’ group,
and the ‘Tremors snake’ attorneys.
MEMO: Hes replacing Chicagos crumbling infrastructure. You cant easily upgrade routes that are at 120% capacity. The more pressure you take off, the cheaper and easier the upgrades are.

Good point. According to the article, the company is going to bear the cost, and then charge fares less than taxis or Uber. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s too optimistic.
The state of Illinois has more than enough financial problems already, so Bozo Bezos better be builing the thing 100% on his own dime.
Just wait until the IL CSUEU or SEIU get a hold of this project
I’m unfamiliar with the #44 Library?
That said, if built, the new tube will be a much greater attraction than, the fake 0 building in the park.
In fact, this Chiraq hater would pedal my bicycle twenty miles west to see what can be seen of the construction and stand line to take a ride!
And I would pester friends that may be involved with the project for an inside tour.
What has Musk created that has not relied on govt subsidies? . . . .Space Transportation? No.
They’ve been paid to launch things into space by both private and govt. entities. Would you rather we pay for Russian rockets instead?
Heck, SpaceX even has to PAY the govt. to launch from the Cape and Vandenberg. Some subsidy that is.
And as far as TESLA, how is it any different from Ford, Chevy, or any other car company. Are you also condemning them for making electric vehicles?
From what I’ve read so far in the book, so is Musk.
IIRC hardpan is around 100 feet in depth, bedrock ~500.
Bedrock topo, zoom in;

Unknown is how the Musk machine handles large rocks?
Small boring machines can digest < half the diameter.
Some of the larger ones can be worked and worried out of the way. Musk may have lasers on sharks or something?
A friend was there and slightly involved...
A fun bit of history.

Musk is fun to watch, but I do _not_ want to be a passenger on _anything_ he builds.—uh, if it ever gets built.
so stupid that they dont what turning radius hell require? Or that they need to know of obstacles?
“There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
When you put a spade into the earth, you are entering terra incognita.
I once had a project that struck a large I beam deep down.
When they finally exposed it, an Ox-Act torch would NOT cut it.
Luckily, I had been awake during that class and remembered, CAST IRON does not readily cut with a torch.
Order up some abrasive saws...
Note: Before steel beams, they were made from cast iron.
I kept a chunk next to my desk for many years.
Federal Tax Credit Up To $7,500!
All-electric and plug-in hybrid cars purchased in or after 2010 may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit amount will vary based on the capacity of the battery used to power the vehicle. State and/or local incentives may also apply.
https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxevb.shtml
Its not just Musk doing this, but its Musk's core business to work these govt incentive angles as opposed to competing in the market.
Just wait until the IL CSUEU or SEIU get a hold of this project
My first thought as I read the article.
BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION TRADES DEPARTMENT AFL-CIO...
Yes, SEIU would attempt to grab something, anything.
From what Ive read so far in the book, so is Musk.
...
My impression from the book is that he lacks empathy for individuals, but has plenty for the human race as a whole.
He does have friends, though, and he did run a nightclub out of his house to help pay for college.

Really? Tesla was founded in 2003. These rebates started in 2010.
And I’d say a $7500 rebate on a 100k Tesla has a lot less impact than it does on a much cheaper Nissan Leaf.
“Driven in a similar way to Steve Jobs, where they would not take thats not possible as an answer.”
That’s the same picture I came away with after reading his biography. Only I would say he’s even more driven than Jobs and dreams even bigger. And he has proven over and over that he can make his dreams real, even if not quite on his super aggressive schedule. I would not bet against him.
He”s truly a force of nature.
There are a LOT of old, unused tunnels under Chicago, and I don’t think they are all mapped very well. They better plan to go pretty deep to avoid busting those open and possibly flooding downtown like happened when in 1992 when someone busted up the pneumatic tunnels.
So you are for tax breaks for folks who can afford 100K cars but not for the rest of us?
Electric cars which will leave behind a huge environmentally toxic battery disposal footprint and use more energy (via required electricity production for charging) than a conventional gasoline engine?
Just trying to establish the bias here. I guess $7500 is ‘scraps’ (compliments Nancy P) to you?
All the tax breaks are social engineering via bought off politicians. Musk is neck deep in this type of business.
