Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, the wealthiest person in the world, is richer than he has ever been before. Since June 1, the tech titan's net worth has grown over $5 billion and now totals $141.9 billion, according to the Forbes World's Billionaires list. That makes Bezos worth roughly $49 billion more than Bill Gates and about $60 billion more than Warren Buffett.

This latest win for Bezos is just one of many he has enjoyed this year.

As Amazon's customer base sticks around despite the latest Prime latest price hike in exchange for a slew of services and perks, the company's stock has continued to increase in value. Even Buffett now regrets not investing in Amazon when he had the chance.

Earlier this year, Bezos officially became the richest person in the world and also helped make Amazon the second most valuable company in the world, behind Apple. And his success can arguably be traced back to a risk he took when he was 30 years old.

Bezos was a straight-A high school student and the class valedictorian, and he got accepted via early admission to Princeton, according to Brad Stone's biography "The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon." He majored in computer science and electrical engineering, and then went on to work various finance and tech jobs after college.

It was while serving as a vice president at the hedge fund D. E. Shaw in the 1990s that Bezos came up with the idea to sell books over the Internet. Doing so, though, would mean taking a significant risk and ...

Jeff Bezos took a chance and he made money and I applaud success. If he uses his wealth to sabotage capitalism then hope he gets busted.

He could sell off most of it and give away 99% of it and still be wealthier than 99.99% of the people on earth.

I'll bet that YOU are wealthier than 50-80% of the people on earth.

I know that I am, even though my income is entirely from Social Security and Veterans Disability pension. With the equity in my house, I'm probably worth $100K, which places me in the top 10% worldwide.

Lots of folks are richer than I, but that has no negative effect on me. I am richer than most of the planet, for which I am truly grateful.

In the immortal words of that great philosopher of Western Civilization, Roger Miller, "You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd, but you can be happy if you've a mind to!"

With that much wealth, why not sell off and just enjoy the rest of your life doing whatever you want?

I believe he's already doing whatever he wants!

One man’s, “want to do” is another man’s, “no way, Jose”

I know I’d like nothing more than to a get a camper van and just travel the States and Canada before it goes into the crapper.

"break up Amazon using antitrust..."

Right after they break up AT&T, which was bought by South Western Bell that kept the name, which formed after the break up of Bell Labs...full circle.

It’s the love of money. The lusting after wealth, instead of loving God and putting Him first, that is the root of evil. Money and wealth are not sinful in the aggregate. But idolatry is a horrible sin, with horrible consequences.

Bezos is the riches man in the world, yet, Amazon is mostly a bubble stock. Bezos is super-rich, but only on paper.

AWS is he earnings center of the company, while the retail/e-commerce side is pathetic as far as earnings go.

Without AWS, Amazon would have been shut down years ago.

Overall, it's P/E ratio is pathetic, but, the hype keeps the stock moving astronomically high. Google and Microsoft and Apple and IBM and most other large corporations are more profitable. Even Walmart is more profitable. And, Walmart is still the retail gross revenue giant, beating Amazon by a lot.

Amazingly, Amazon’s cloud-computing business represents only about 10% of total revenue — it reported $5.49 billion in first quarter revenue, out of Amazon’s grand total $51.04 billion — yet AWS brought in $1.4 billion in operating income out of Amazon’s total operating income of $1.9 billion. While accounting for more than 73% of operating income, AWS revenue grew 48.6% from the year before and operating income increased 57.3%.

It would be nice if he paid his workers in the unbearably hot warehouses more then minimum wage. He’s the worst when it comes to pay and benefits. Seems like he’s a very selfish guy.

Oh yes it has. Between their cloud business, Whole Foods, etc..... Amazon is everywhere. You’ve contributed one way or another whether you think so or not.

“A complete loser”. Yes, he started a business 20 or so years ago that is now one of the largest in the world. And is now the richest man in the world. AND, got married somewhere along the way, and is still married to the same woman.

And what exactly have you done with your life?

You’re absolutely correct. Amazons stock price assumes a LOT. Of course, I thought so 10 years ago and didn’t buy it then. So what do I know :)

Exactly.. Does technology simplify our lives or does it enable us to waste even more time? I can spend the day online searching for what I want. Health permitting, going out in the world is much more satisfying.

I would say that putting money above faith, family, and friends is a problem.

However, a person can be true to faith, family, and friends and also recognize that either good people control the wealth or bad people control the wealth.

There is no virtue in good people ceding the wealth to bad people.

Putting money above God (the Lord Jesus Christ) is the problem.

If He is not the Lord of someone's life, then that person will makes something else their "god." Sex. Alcohol. Material possessions. Or Money in all its forms.
