By today's standards I think some of the military drill was a bit sloppy. But one must remember that there had been little in the form of the pomp and circumstance we typically associate with the British monarchy for a very long time. Following the death of her husband in 1861 Victoria had gone into lifelong mourning, eschewing the normal ceremonial duties of the crown. She retreated from public life making only rare appearances, notably for her Golden and Diamond Jubilees.

Wife and I loved the PBS miniseries. I liked the way she let people know the conversation was over. “You may leave now.”

Thank you for posting. It reminds me of an article I read about how the passing of the current queen will be the most disruptive and landmark event in UK since WWII.

It’s amazing how ceremonies like Royal Weddings, Funerals, Coronations reach a global audience instantaneously now.

Cousin Willie showed up, his troops looked well-ordered.

I thought the sailors marched quite well.

Interesting....seemed to be two parts to the casket...and it was VERY heavy. And, what were the people with the white funny hats (strips of fabric?)

Hahahaha! I just saw this, I thought it was kind of funny...a stray dog just zooms through the video!

I thought it was very impressive, but I honestly have to admit all I know about military precision from about the WWII era back is from Hollywood and occasional still pictures.

I wonder if the Hollywood people made it more precise in large groups than it really was.

I was fascinated watching it. Thanks for posting it.

It’s almost startling to be able to see that - to see something ‘in action’ so far in the past. Thank you for posting.
