Yep. Think about that keyboard on your desk, the mouse .... even when we practice good hygiene, a simple touch of an object carries filth with it. Yuck. I’m a germ phobic. Not irrationally so but just aware of germs everywhere and critical vectors.

“And ‘homeless people from california’ is just a euphemism for illegal immigrants from south of the border.”

One possibility but it could also be California spreading the wealth of their homeless population. Bus tickets are cheap.

The worker had recently returned from California.

Amen to that. It does make one wonder tho...how did it spread this far, and this fast? Something in the water? Something in the air? Parents who did (or Grandparents) too many drugs?

In the past, it was not uncommon for those who visited New Orleans and consumed raw shellfish to contract Hep A.

One point I’d like to take issue with: our crops have been picked for decades by Mexican itinerant laborers. It is the “homeless” in San Diego who are ground zero of this outbreak.

Homeless people are not Mexican or Hispanic from what I see. They are a different group.

We have a real illegal alien problem but please don’t blame this unusual outbreak on those who do the back breaking labor of picking fruits and vegetables. I have greater qualms eating in a Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood.

It’s the lack of hygiene, basic hygiene........
......perhaps in large part to illegals handling our food

And it’s not just illegals. Years ago, I stopped in at a well known franchise taco place, and ordered nachos. Right in front of me, a middle-aged man used his bare hand to grab the chips out of the container, and put them on the dish. I objected, and he said, “Oh. Well, I can wear gloves if you like”. Duh!
When you think about the fact that at least half of fast food workers are teenaged boys, (and you KNOW how hygienic THEY are) it’s a wonder we aren’t sicker than we are.
In my Bible reading this morning, in 1 Timothy, Paul talks about not refusing foods that were previously forbidden, because all creatures (as in animals eaten) were created by God and are good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the Word of God, and by prayer. Good to know. Praying over our food is protective, in more ways than one.

We had communicable disease under control in this country, mostly by not pooping where we ate and drank.

It’s not the lack of vaccines.....good mercy! It’s the lack of hygiene, basic hygiene........ ......perhaps in large part to illegals handling our food

We don’t need a vaccine for every frippin thing......we need common sense!

You're exactly right! Not to mention that I'm pretty sure the "vaccine" is not really a vaccine in the common understanding of the term. A vaccine is given prior to infection in order to develop antibodies to combat the disease if eventually infected. I'm pretty sure those who already have hepatitis are given gamma-globulins which basically assist the immune system in controlling the impact of the infection.

Just went to the CDC’s website, the section on Hep A. Saw the number of recorded new cases for the last 12 years or so. Noticed something interesting. During the years Obama was prez, reported new cases of Hep A were down from the highs, under 2000, until 2016, when the numbers went up again.

Weird.

Indeed it is interesting. Curious what the true and accurate numbers are.
