Sotobanari island is a beautiful little island and looks like a nice place to visit but as small as it is I would not want to stay there too long.
The 'naked hermit' shunned mainstream society and set up base on Sotobanari island in 1989
More pictures and a video at link.

Remember Dick Proenneke, the Alaska guy that lived alone about 30 years in the wilderness in a cabin that he built.
I also remember the stories in the 1970s of Japanese soldiers cut off on remote Pacific islands who still believed that the war was going on.

How do you say Wilson in Japanese?

Another example of government getting into people’s sh*t...just because it says so.

Exactly. This is a perfect example of freedom versus forced state security. If the man wants to live there until he dies, let him. So what if he would live longer and get better medical care on the mainland being taken care of by the state. It is his choice to refuse that care and die earlier if he wants to.

Why the Fucik does he need a GoPro camera?
Does he upload the videos to the web?
Does he watch them on the HD TV?

8 replies before a Gilligan reference. I thought it would be quicker. Good job.

Some enterprising capitalist in the entertainment industry probably thought to make a buck off this guy by using him as a reality star.

I wanted to do a “Japanese soldier on desert island” post, but it’s too long ago nowadays.
