Why Jerry Seinfeld Doesn't Think It Was 'Necessary' to Fire Roseanne Barr (Exclusive)

Jerry Seinfeld is weighing in on the fallout Roseanne Barr has received after she posted a racist tweet, leading ABC to cancel her hit sitcom, and instead, greenlight a spinoff series, titled The Conners, which won't include her.

ET spoke to the 64-year-old comedian on Monday about a new season of his show,Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, coming to Netflix, and also got his candid thoughts on the controversy surrounding Barr's remarks.

"I didn't see why it was necessary to fire her," Seinfeld said. "Why would you murder someone who's committing suicide?"

"But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push," he added. "That was fresh."

Seinfeld also said he thought another female comedian should get a chance to play Barr's part.

"I think they should get another Roseanne," he advised. "They brought Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can't we get another Roseanne? There's other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job."

A few years back Seinfeld spoke out against the PC crowd that has taken over comedy and comedy venues. I rarely watch comedian stand-up comedy anymore. It's just not funny and the women are the worst.

There were parts of Seinfeld that would probably be too much for todays PC uber-crowd.

He stood up forthe Kramer guy who said far worse stuf when he lost it at a fan.

She sent out a couple tweets of far less harsh stuff and hes not bothered she lost her show.

He has always been for comics pushig the lines and not apologizing. His interviews with Steve Harvey and others confirm it yet hes happy to see Roseanne hang. Lesbian Margaret Cho, he gets back behind her and helps her get thigs right.

I don’t think Jerry was watching the same Roseanne I was watching.

Maybe he was watching “Roseanne Does Dallas”.

Margaret Cho is one of the so called female “comedians” I was thinking about when I typed that the women are the worst.

Cho and Barr are about the same size and shape.

Maybe she'll be the replacement.

I won't be watching.

There is NO other Roseanne. Anyone else would be a mere flunky, copycat shadow.

Dan who came back was the same Dan who left (John Goodman).

I guess this guy thinks Seinfeld could be recreated with someone else playing the lead (Jerry) and all of the other cast/characters the same as original.

What a putz.

Although Jerry himself took a stab at it with the Alter Jerry, George and Kramer show...

I guess Seinfeld forgot about his friend and co-star Kramer, who launched into a racist tirade in a comedy club. Compare what Kramer said to what Roseanne Barr said. Seinfeld is a leftist hypocrite douchebag.

White Men will be blamed, for no trackable reason, when The Connors fails.

Those who pass for comedians today are just not really funny and the material they use is horrible. All of them cater to the lowest common denominator and it’s just unwatchable.

The there are no real venues to see up and coming comics. Johnny Carson was a God send to a lot of people starting out, he was never afraid to show case new talent where ever he could find it. When he left none of the folks like Leno or Letterman would do what Johnny did, so you never saw new folks.

I can’t even tell you who today’s comics are as I don’t seem them on anywhere, unless it might be HBO and I don’t have that.

They don’t even have any sophisticated comics out there, someone like Alan King for instance. Sadly all the greats are gone.

Don’t worry. I’m sure Wanda Sykes was recruited back as a writer for The Connors. They are so, so creative that the storyline will be outstanding! They will have everyone laughing so hard, no one will notice that Roseanne is no longer part of the family. /s

How about All in the Family - airing that would be the PC equivalent of a 25 megaton nuke above DC.

If the Rosanne Show’s ratings tank without her, maybe ABC will let her come back from the dead and resume her role.

Her character can explain that after she was burned at the stake by the PC Inquisition for saying a bad thing about a black woman, she was refused entry to hell by Satan who couldn’t figure out what she’d done wrong and didn’t want her around ruining hell’s reputation for evil.
