That’s exactly what I was going to say.
Comparing the Aztecs with Nazis is reasonably fair.
But Cortez, et al, were no prize.
The small number of Spaniards, regardless of their superiour weapons, could not have done this alone.
They had the willing help and support of the surrounding indigenous tribes whom the Aztecs were terrorizing, killing, and using as slaves and sacrifices.
Aside from consideration of the rest of the Spanish atrocities; in this case they did the new world a favor by eliminating the Aztecs.

I read about Shaka Zulu who killed several thousand people because they did not mourn the passing of his mother enough. He also ordered the killing of pregnant women and their husbands. He was killed himself the following year by his half brothers.

The Aztecs, American indians, African tribes or european countries where we are told how peaceful loving they are and that we should emulate them. Just the opposite!
It seems like all these “peaceful, nature loving” pagans always have a love for killing and even eating people. Reminds me of the Demonrat Party...
God told Moses and Joshua to exterminate the Caananites because of their detestable practices. These included child sacrifice and male and female temple prostitution.
The aztecs practiced both human sacrifice and homosexuality—especially in their priesthood.
Cortez’s reaction and that of his men was pretty much the same as that of Moses and Joshua to the Caananite practices.
There was one major difference.
The Indians mostly in the millions because of European and African diseases against which they had no resistance.
