It’s Brazil. My question goes in this direction: how much wine had she consumed, and, how high were the stiletto heels she was wearing? She had probably been drinking throughout the match, and, being a Latin female, the heels were at least six inches.
Nonetheless, a tragic accident.

Not quite. It's a big vein to be sure, but like all veins it is low pressure. The mistake here was to apply pressure in the form of towels wrapped around her neck, resulting in diffuse, ineffective pressure. A finger or two on or even in the wound would likely have saved her life. Few folks are up to that task, though
