Efforts to block the highly qualified Barrett from the Supreme Court because of her faith betray our nations founding ideals. If you ever need much evidence that the growing God gap in American politics fosters an immense amount of ignorance and occasionally outright bigotry, look no farther than the concern the alarm, even that Amy Coney Barrett is on President Trumps short list to replace Anthony Kennedy on the United States Supreme Court.
The alarm isnt about her credentials. Shes checked every box of excellence law review, appellate-court clerkship, Supreme Court clerkship (with Justice Scalia), elite law-firm experience, law professor at an elite law school, and now experience as a federal judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Shes a young, brilliant woman at the apex of her profession.
So, beyond her obvious originalist judicial philosophy (shared to varying degrees by every person on Trumps list of potential nominees), whats the problem with Judge Barrett. Why do some progressives single her out for particular scorn?
It turns out that shes a faithful Christian who lives a Christian life very similar to the lives of millions upon millions of her fellow American believers.
No, really, thats the objection.
If the Left had their way, professing Christ would be a flogging offense. What’s old is new again.
Ram her through.
Further proof (not that any more is needed) that the spiritual war is real and intensifying.
The wheat is being separated from the chaff.
There is no neutral ground - no matter how hard people try to make it so.
As Bob Dylan sang: “You’re going to have to serve somebody. It may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you’re going to have to serve somebody.”.
... pushed the Affordable Care Act beyond its plausible meaning to save the statute. He construed the penalty imposed on those without health insurance as a tax, which permitted him to sustain the statute as a valid exercise of the taxing power; had he treated the payment as the statute did as a penalty he would have had to invalidate the statute as lying beyond Congresss commerce power [A] judge who adopts an interpretation inconsistent with the text fails to enforce the statute that commanded majority support. If the majority did not enact a "tax," interpreting the statute to impose a tax lacks democratic legitimacy it is illegitimate for the Court to distort either the Constitution or a statute to achieve what it deems a preferable result.
I like this woman Amy Barrett
I don’t trust women who have 3 names!
Er lets see:
Senate vote on Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 96-3
Senate vote on Elena Kagen: 63-37
Senate vote on Sonia Sotomayor 68-31
Hummmmmm I don’t remember the dems having a supermajority in those years...
If PDJT picks her, the Dumb-o-crats will yell “Trump is ripping her away from her Kids!”
A major goal of the left is to remove all influence that Christianity has on the laws and customs of this country - in other words, to eliminate true Christians.
They don’t care about phonies - pelosi, de lauro.
Sometimes FR reminds me of The Suggestion Box in the novel “Up the Down Staircase”!
And that’s a good thing.
Wait. Get the senators elected this fall then replace RBG with her without worrying where the votes will come from. She should be DJT third appointee. (And we need to work like never before to get those senators elected)
Exactly! Trump should nominate her and when the flak over the target begins, he should turn their tactics around on them! Will be worth watching commies hating on a smart woman!
