Not very creative indeed.

All of you guys. Really? Having a wordless vocal instrument is a bad thing? A cheer, a sigh, a whoop, you guys see as something to insult?

Voices are an instrument. I didn’t watch the whole thing but I bet most of the songs had plenty of lyrics. What is your beef? This idea of having vocals include wordless sounds happened way before millennials. Think Michael Jackson, think Janis Joplin, think Madrigal chants. Sheesh.

It's a tic. In conversation they use "ummm like", "ummmm you know", "ummmm you know like" …

Drives me nuts. It's musical filler material like foam in a pillow.

Some sanity on this thread!

Thank you!

Music is not worse than ever. Every older generation thinks this is so. Music to me is proof of Gd and it goes on. It’s infinite. Maybe is not your style, but I don’t hear any of the FReepers complaining about commercial music complaining about anything they LIKE being too commercial or updated. They aren’t all sitting at home playing an organ as their wives crank a moving picture reel by hand.

Since 2000, almost nothing produced is listenable.

It is such a shame that people believe this.

Imagine Dragons “Believer”
https://youtu.be/7wtfhZwyrcc

Disturbed “Sound of Silence”
https://youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4

Pokey LaFarge “Something in the Water”
https://youtu.be/FXzEVLSoVqw

I could do this all day. Great new music is always happening. (Yes I know Sound of Silence is a cover, but what a cover!)

I guess it’s a sign that FReepers have no serious problems.

I have always felt much the same.

Music from the Sixties was absolutely different and creative, and often beautiful, but my overall impression was that there was a good deal of innovative and raw music.

Music from the Seventies from beginning to end had a more polished and musical quality to it, very melodic, lot of great harmonies, very smooth, good lyrics. Here is one I just remembered recently that highlights what I mean-the music is interesting, unique, and nicely performed...good to listen to: Starbuck: "Moonlight Feels Right"

The music from the Eighties took on a more harsh, electronic tone to it, but there was still a lot of good music. I felt like in the 90's, it kind of fell off a cliff.

Now, that is just MY opinion!

Another of their annoying sayings.

Hahahahahahaha!

Funny, I have recently really gotten into Ray Charles music, particularly his “Birth of Soul” and “Genius of Soul” albums...

Caroline Kennedy : "Ya know..."

In this edited 30-minute interview on Manhattan's local news channel NY1, then New York Senate hopeful Caroline Kennedy uses the words "ya know" over and over again. Here are most of them ... ya know?

His “Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison” album is a lot of fun to listen to...:)

My wife particularly likes the “25 Minutes To Go” song, and marvels that the prisoners really seemed to like that one!

I didn't hear much Janis Joplin level talent in that hodgepodge of millennial pop songs!

I think the Millennial Whoop is fair game for criticism as it is so repetitive and permeates most of todays hit songs.

On the other hand, many people obviously love it as it seems to sell a lot of records - or perhaps these days, generates a lot of "streams" as I don't think people buy that many records any more.

Yeah & we had Disco!!! Hated disco when it was popular, now I do like some of them.

Some of the new pop are good though, such as:

Well, since this is the first time I’ve disagreed with you maybe ever, gosh, I guess I will listen for it more in pop songs I hear. It never bothered me - Alicia Keyes, Bruno Mars, everyone has a whoo whoo or a squeal.

Contemporary Christian music has been heavily drenched in this for a few years now.

Annoying.

Today almost no musical act can fill arenas all across the country as 70s bands could - and did.

Radiohead is the only one I can think of. And no "Millennial Whoop" from Thom York.
