The Fourth of July is good fun for fireworks-loving humans. But for Stella, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, it feels like the end of the world.
Stella finds the noise of the fireworks so terrifying that she pretty much spends the whole week in the bathtub, her owner, Vlad, who declined to share his last name, tells The Post.
So this year, the Bushwick resident is trying a natural chill pill for his pup: CBD-infused dog treats.
We bought them out of desperation, really, he says.
His girlfriend ordered the chicken-flavored treats, which contain a calming, non-psychoactive hemp extract, from Bark Shop, and began feeding them to Stella as early celebrations kicked off in their neighborhood.
Already theyve noticed a huge difference: Instead of cowering in the tub, Stella can be found hanging out around her family, sometimes rolled over on her back, tail wagging.
Vlads been pleasantly surprised. I was skeptical at first, but shes way less intensely scared after shes had the treats, he says. Its not like she seems drugged. I can just tell that the anxiety doesnt take hold like it usually does this time of year.

We got some oil for my dog this year....no the but totally calmed him down and no barking and losing his mind.
Stella is a pit bull. Vlad is soon to be missing a chunk of neck.
Maybe its pit bulls in particular? My friend’s pit bull also is terrified of fireworks. But at our local park last night, I saw families with labs, retrievers and other dogs who weren’t bothered at all by the explosions going on right above them.
Auto correct did me wrong. That should have read “....no THC....”
Reminds me of a 4th of July back in the early 70’s. The family pooch was a 3-legged beagle named Buddy. Beagles tend towards being high strung and Buddy was no exception.
This particular 4th we were partying when Buddy was startled by a firework explosion. He had been getting along OK but this one really unnerved him. My brother gently gave him a nose-hit and it calmed Buddy down almost immediately.
Beats the heck out of vet prescribed pills!
My sister’s dog hides under a bed or table.
It’s not just pits. My two dachshunds are terrified by fireworks.
My mother even tried a Thundershirt on her little dog and nope didn’t work ,LOL
A “thunder shirt” and anti-anxiety medicine were the answers around here last night, but still some fear was evident with the pet. He sat in my lap and I was holding him for awhile.
The fireworks were set off everywhere including several spots on my street.
Can’t seem to get my dog to inhale?
I found my cross Pomeranian/Poodle in the guest bathroom last night. Second year in-a-row that he has retreated to a safe place from the fireworks.
Shortly after the fireworks conclude...he slowly wanders back into the family room...no drugs required.
Stock up on Gaines Burgers.
Everybody knows that it’s a gateway drug!
Soon they’ll be shooting up heroin in back alleys!.............
Our Chihuahua hides in the bathroom behind the toilet......................

My dog is just the opposite. We moved to Texas from a very rural little town in Arizona back in December. Fireworks have been going off everywhere for the past week. When my dog hears the first one go off in the evening, he runs to the door and whines until we let him out. He goes out and sits in one of the chairs on the patio and watches them. This is a no sh*t story. Last night, he sat on my wife’s lap on the patio all evening and enjoyed the show going on all around us. I’m talking about actual fireworks, not firecrackers and sparklers. Our entire neighborhood was full of smoke all evening. We have a very weird little dog.
I know a black lab who put herself through a picture window one 4th.
My current cats become alert and skittish, but not really scared or crazy. I’ve had cats in the past who would run and hide under the bed.
It's a gateway drug. Soon, the dog will be hooked on Meth-infused dog treats. And a pit bull on Meth is not a pretty sight.
