You can play this damn sport and make money your whole entire life.
Provided you can shoot below par on the toughest golf courses on Earth consistently for a couple of decades.
L
AQ lot have sponsors who pay a large part of their expenses...And don’r forget the “appearance” money...
Correct: This is akin to the old Shell match play (before my time) that use to pit the likes of Ben Hogan against Sam Snead. Phil and Tiger will control the business aspect of this. Let’s say Golf Channel and the PGA tour broadcasts it on TV and On-line. Companies will pay for advertising and Phil and Tiger will get a Percentage of that. Corporate sponsors like Taylor Made (Tigers equipment Company and Nike, his Clothing sponsor) and Callaway (Phil’s equipment Company along with KPMG, Workday) will all pay money for sponsorship as well.
Both of these guys are great businessmen, they will both make money, just that the loser will make less than the winner.
Maybe that’s where I went wrong.
The Yips vs. the Hips
Television rights, sponsorships, merchandise sales and ticket prices
would easily cover the $10 million prize.
The PGA prohibits appearance fees at their events.
hitting the ball doesn’t rate money- however- CONTROLLING the little ball does- takes a lot of skill to consistently control the ball- anyone can hit the ball- not many can control it with such expertise as the pros do
Event of a lifetime!!! Tickets will go for 10 grand, easy.

The TV rights alone will probably cover the $10million
Exactly. I cant understand what people dont LOVE about golf. That game is the most difficult game that I can imagine. I love it!!
Also, I love Tiger and Phil. I see that makes me a minority around here but the level that they play is miraculous. I had a 3 level fusion in my NECK and I am changed forever. I cannot imagine coming back from a fusion in your lumbar and swinging a club 128 MPH. Amazing!!!!
They will get many times this for the TV rights to broadcast. All a show. Both will walk away with millions no matter who wins.
You are naive if you think either of them will pony up a dime for any of it.
Probably initiated by a network and the bet is just the hook to get press and eyeballs.
They’re not putting up their own money.
Every response thus far is incorrect. Hitting the ball, correctly or not is irrelevant to the actual income. ALL of the revenues, from tournaments and from advertising, come from sponsorships. Getting EYES to watch you hit the ball is all that matters. Sometimes, doing that well brings in the eyes... but there are plenty of golfers today who top Tiger and Phil in ball control skills right now... but we don't know their names, and they don't draw eyes to the screens. Sponsors pay for EYES, to be held captive for a few moments so that they can hawk their wares. Whosoever brings eyes has the power to bring money to the table, for all to enjoy. The WNBA brings no eyes, thus they make no money, and they have to give away tickets. The NBA brings a billion eyes across the planets, and some people make a very comfortable living just selling and re-selling tickets to games. The NBA generates 1000 times more money than the WNBA, benefitting owners, players, coaches, physical therapists, hot dog vendors, scalpers, knock-off t-shirt makers, etc etc etc etc.
EYES = DOLLARS, period.
(This is why Facebook is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, when they create nothing but a platform.)
“FORE”.....golf ping
I hope Phil whips his a**.
Dumb...
BUT it is a useful "tool" for getting him out of the house so I can relax. Hey....Play 36 holes....knock yourself out!!
So the question becomes, why is golf drawing so many eyes? I’d say because it is a sport where you don’t have to run. Couples can do it together. Old folks, fat folks, anyone with eyes and arms can do it. It’s a great way to enjoy pleasant weather on a perfectly groomed lawn, while trying to improve your previous scores. Competing against others can be part of it, but if you don’t care about that, then you can just try to top yourself. The physical requirements of the non-competitive folks are virtually zero. That is a strong draw for many who have no other physical/athletic/sporting options... which includes a LOT of people, all over the world.
