Humphrey = the last non-asshole Democrat nominee for President.

I would have to agree with your assessment.
It seems like we’re talking about what happened in a different country. Certainly not in the USA we now know.
Back then, even the political jousting was on the whole far more gentle and nuanced, at least it was on TV.

I know behind the scenes, people like LBJ and Nixon played Hardball to get what they wanted done. Sometimes a President has to force their will. FDR did it. Kennedy must have as well, but that was all ignored by the big three channels back then. Even if a paper like PRAVDA had reported about the JFK sex scandals, most Americans would not have believed it, so deep was our faith in the Camelot Fantasy.

The good ol’ days of comedy. I miss those days and comedians.

Yeah, you look at those roasts, and it does seem like a totally different country. You couldn’t do those today, besides that those people are dead, but the talent no longer exists. You couldn’t have people of different ideologies sitting down at a table laughing together, since even comedy has been weaponized by the ultra-left. If Humphrey were sitting at a dais with Reagan and Goldwater or the like in today’s climate, HHH would be savaged by the left for daring to sit down with them.

It’s sickening what the left has done to our country and how it has so viciously divided it and incited hate in the past 5 decades. Pure evil.

The guy who claimed he would EAT every page of his Affirmative Action Bill if it would ever require quotas.

Of course, Hubert was lying.

Doing the drunk thing just doesn’t seem funny anymore. Dudley Moore movies are painful watch.

That has to be the most abbreviated paragraph in the annals of HHH speechcraft.

As a child growing up in MN, I still chuckle when I recall the word my dear old dad frequently used when describing the senator: "windbag."

"...It seems like we’re talking about what happened in a different country...."

All one has to do is watch one of the cable stations that plays all the old sitcoms from back then.

We're lightyears away from the America we grew up in, and the Left wants to take us even further into Sh*tland.

That is, if we left them...

Hubert Humphery was one of the most liberal Democrats of his time...today he’d be to “alt-right” for the Democrat party.

Wasn’t Brooks a teetotaler in real life?

His bio said he was a drinker early on, but only drank moderately after he became famous.

There once existed Liberals one could respect. Not many, but they could be found if you looked hard enough. You could disagree with them and not be called a Nazi or Racist. Of course, dinosaurs used to be around too.

I’d suggest Hannibal Lecter should roast today’s democrats but I don’t want the poor man to get the runs.

He was obviously drinking during the 1937 flood in Louisville.
