Expanded patio is just about done. Restoration of raised beds is next - Hubby's tools etc were dumped on each and every bed after I pulled garlic, harvested wheat etc. So I couldn't plant anything there and still can not until the junk is cleared away.
One of the prefab garden sheds is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. It's for the lower patio next to the green house. I have about 4 gallons of green beans to process tomorrow. We have a bunch of squash and cukes also. About 5 gallons-a little more than that.
We got a shipment from Stark Brothers. Two blueberry bushes, and a couple of pear trees - one is an Asian Pear. Both for Zone 4 IIRC. Corn is above my head, but we aren't getting as many ears as we usually do.
Totally worn out from being outside today, but I wanted to get this posted before going to bed. Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
We are having some of the most wonderful weather in the 70 years I have lived here on Humboldt Bay. I hope the Fourth of July holiday was as grand for you as it was for us. We had all of our family here for some great Grillin & Chillin. Anyone else ever grilled fresh oyster along with the usual Hamburgers & Hot Dogs...
Great news in central Texas, we had scattered showers off and on yesterday and an inch of rain today! 2 rain barrels are full but I’d knocked the other 2 off kilter at some point and they’re only about half full. I amended that situation before dark and it sure feels like we may get another shower tonight. I’m still getting a few tomatoes and lots of squash and peppers. My lemon tree still looks sickly but its put out some new growth. I still think our oddball windy summer is the culprit there. Peaches, figs and pomegranates are close to being ripe so I’ll be eating happy and processing those soon.
God bless you all. Greeneyes it is wonderful hearing how well all your new things are coming along. May God continue to keep everything going smoothly and on time.
Oh my goodness, I forgot to mention my other praise report/good news :)
Darlin Hubby is a Craigslist addict. He reads the free stuff from all neighboring cities ~almost~ as much as his Bible. #no disrespect meant ... Last weekend he found a couple giving away brick and stone. He got 3 - 16’ trailer loads of assorted clean brick and beautiful Austin stone. These are for keyhole gardens he’s been promising to build for me. We have more than enough for three 7’ diameter keyholes (we are both tall) and I will even have leftovers for terracing on our hillside. I spent yesterday and today using some of the stone to improve erosion control around my hillside perennials. Worked on it between rainstorms so I could see where the water was flowing. Always good to watch the water.
I’ve been doing my farm work at night whenever possible. Today wasn’t too bad, but most days have been too hot to work outside safely.
Cucumbers have ben my nemesis here in North Texas. For the past 4 years they either suffered from powdery mildew or burned to a crisp. Then I read somewhere that to grow cucumbers here they have to be protected from afternoon sun so this year I tented them with row cover fabric. That did the trick. I have to uncover them at night so the bees don’t get stuck in the fabric, then by 11am put the tent back in place before they start to wither. Now I have more cucumbers than I can eat so looks like I’ll be trying my hand at pickle making this week end.
I have a problem.
I have a groundhog that is wiping out my garden.
It was eating the peas, has decimated the lettuce, and I have an absolutely beautiful tomato crop, the best I have ever seen. The plants are huge and covered with flowers, the best I’ve ever seen, and am concerned about its safety.
What can I use to repel them?
I’ve heard of things to spray on the plants but do not want to damage the leaves by burning them with something I spread on them.
HELP!!!!!!!!
