Goalkeeping IMO was the difference. The Swedish goalie had a shot at stopping both goal scoring kicks and missed. The English goalie made two fantastic saves. Switch roles, and Sweden wins 2-0 instead.
Goalkeeping was big; but so, too, was the Swede strategy to play little or no offense — hoping, as in past games, to be opportunistic, creating turnovers at midfield.
It didn’t work worth a darn; and it must’ve left Swede fans shaking their heads in wonder at the lack of attack. I daresay the English were the ones on attack 75% of the game.
