Scientists discovered a new wasp species with a terrifyingly large stinger. Researchers from the University of Turku in Finland recently discovered the Clistopyga crassicaudata, which lives between the Andes mountains and the Amazon rainforests. "I have studied tropical parasitoid wasps for a long time, but I have never seen anything like it," said Ilari E. Sääksjärvi, a professor at the University of Turku. "The stinger looks like a fierce weapon."

I do NOT have to guess at the purpose of the stinger. It is for knocking out enemies and prey. OUCH>
I’d say step on it, but it looks as it might be able to sting you through shoe leather.
Look up ovipositor.
LOTS of insects have them.
This thread will not end well.
I have stinger-envy
[[The giant stinger of the current species is very likely a highly sophisticated tool as well, but unfortunately we can only guess at its purpose,]]
They use it for pole vaulting- a favorite pastime of wasps
They also use it to stir their coffee with in the am-
and it’s been rumored that they use it to sew warm wasp jackets for wintertime
In about a year, look for this to be the theme of a new SyFy Channel horror movie starring Brian Austin Green and Richard Greico.
Another “gift” that keeps on giving from South America. The cursed continent. Angry arrogant ignorant illegals and their spawn, filth, diseases we long ago eradicated but are now back with a vengeance, drugs, cartels, pestilence, gangs, rapists, criminals, Aztecan tribes who cut living hearts out and decapitate men women and children to propitiate the gods of rain for their stupid corn crops. The only “civilized” product to make its way out of the rain forest was the singer Astrud Gilberto and Bossa Nova in the ‘60s. And only because the jazz saxophonist Stan Getz knocked her up first.
Ron Jeremy wasp version.
Waspnado.
I just went to a shed on my property. There were probably 50 wasps on a huge nest. I got my wasp spray and hit the nest. It takes nerves of steel to stand still while all those wasp fly past you. Time to change my pants.
Great. SMH....Another vicious insect that is going to be imported into the US from South America. Our yellow jackets are assholes enough.
It’s also a portable baseball bat for them
I didn’t even know the Amazon rain forest still existed what with all tbe deforestation and global warming going on.../s
Nightmares await.
