We’ve got people here that claim they’re homeless that hang out on packed street corners asking for money - a local news crew followed them around and discovered they weren’t homeless it was just a great way to make some spare cash.
We used to have a well dressed deaf guy go around town and hand out a piece of paper claiming he was deaf and asking for donations. Literally - ALL over town.
I was in a local shop and the guy came in and the manager asked him to leave. I knew the manager and asked why he kicked him out and he said that the guy was easily pulling in twice his salary while he was managing a store and working his butt off.
A newspaper story 20 years ago revealed a guy holding a sign on a freeway off ramp in Mesa, Arizona was making $500 A DAY.
