Build-A-Bear 'pay your age' offer abandoned amid 'chaos'

A cheap teddy offer which left shoppers with young children queuing for up to eight hours amid chaotic scenes has been abandoned over "safety concerns".

Build-A-Bear Workshop was offering UK customers a chance to buy any bear, which can cost up to £52, for the price of their child's age.

At Leeds' White Rose Shopping Centre police were called when queues of "about a mile long" formed.

The company said the response had been "overwhelming and unprecedented".

There have also been reports of long queues in US shopping centres, where the American company was also putting on the same promotion on Thursday.

>>Surprisingly vicious for cute and cuddly, with only rudimentary weaponry. ;)<<

Lucas was clear: the Ewoks were stand-ins for the Vietnamese nationals. The Empire the USA.

I did not know that! Thanks. I just watch movies to enjoy them - I’m not big on the backgrounds and analysis. :)

Now, how do I overcome my total terror and near-bed wetting when an Orc is in the area? ;)

OH! Their child’s age! I thought it was the customers. Couldn’t see much in the way of a bargain if a mom was in her 30’s-40’s.(And are teen 20’s babymamas gonna pay that much for a toy?) The line in the mall here went from one anchor store to the other and no one was happy. Why not just lower prices to something reasonable for a stuffed toy ? I mean what can you add to a stuffed animal to make it worth $50??

The line was shut down 90 minutes after the build a bear at the mall near me opened. I’ve never been to a build a bear and I hope I never have to go to one.

I saw a story about this on my local news this morning. Just plain weird. I feel sorry for the kids who have mothers who get involved in this insanity.

A friend took her one year old, and they came away with a cute bear. They waited an hour.

I wouldn’t have done it for any of my children. lol

This reminds me of the frenzies about twenty years ago when Krispy Kreme was a big fad. When a new store opened, people would camp overnight to get a donut.

Okay, the child's age.

At first it sounded like this was a scheme to rip off grandma and grandpa when they came to the store.

For £89 or £92 that bear ought to be able to talk and do simple calculations in its head.

I generally NEVER go anywhere ANYONE congregates except for family and friends and my Church. The 0bowMao years taught me that close to half of the general public are morons and act like animals at the drop of a hat. Wish I wasn’t so jaded, but it is what it is. It’s another reason why I go to one movie every 18 months or less and only when the morons are at work and school.

Friend of the wife’s gave us one. She was so very proud of it. $50 (then, more now) dust catcher. Too expensive to give to a kid, to expensive to junk. We might still have it in a box somewhere.

There are still Krispy Kreme campouts. Friday the 13th, they have a special. I think it is two dozen for $13. I could be wrong. But we have gone more than once when there were long lines of cars in the drivethru.

Where we used to live, the Krispy Kreme gave one free donut for each A on a report card. Our children couldn’t wait to get their report cards. And for those students who did not have an A, the store would give them one free anyway. They must not lose too much money on this because they are still doing it.

I’m generally with you. I vacation in the mountains, or hike on uninhabited islands in Michigan. Crowded beaches are a nightmare. However strange, I still enjoy walking through large cities like NYC, Shanghai, etc. People are going about their business, not necessarily taking up space.

My wife had planned to meet some friends with our 2 daughters but the mall cancelled the event because of the lines that were forming.
