A cheap teddy offer which left shoppers with young children queuing for up to eight hours amid chaotic scenes has been abandoned over "safety concerns".
Build-A-Bear Workshop was offering UK customers a chance to buy any bear, which can cost up to £52, for the price of their child's age.
At Leeds' White Rose Shopping Centre police were called when queues of "about a mile long" formed.
The company said the response had been "overwhelming and unprecedented".
There have also been reports of long queues in US shopping centres, where the American company was also putting on the same promotion on Thursday.

A lot of the Dunkin Dognuts have added a Baskin Robbins ice cream counter at their stores. Which to me is about as appealing as eating at a Taco Bell that is in a gas station. Ummmmmm? NO.
And whomever thought that practically giving away their overpriced product, which is more than likely a ONE TIME experience for a kid and not something that would build repeat business, was a "good idea" is dumber than the average Killery voter (which is sub- bag of hammers level).
Or like when crApple comes out with a new piece of proprietary, overpriced iCrap which is nothing more than the LAST iCrap but with a new hue of gold foil. And the iSheeple camp out the night before to pay through the nose for something that will still be available to purchase a week later. BAAAAAAA
From the news clips I saw on KDKA, there was no relation to “chaos.” Long lines, yes...but no “chaos.”
Now, “Black Friday” sales.........
Well, judging by the display I saw today, they bought the anger of several thousand young mothers and their children whom are their potential customer base. NOT a brilliant plan! Especially when the police had to be called in to make everyone go home.
Having to call in the police at a suburban upper middle class mall which rarely requires a call to the police in order to put a stop to the nonsense is the definition of chaos.
Another Cabbage Patch fiasco. As if their kids don’t have enough teddy bears already.
I just gave away 7 garbage bags of stuff toys from one kiddo. And a giant bear. No, I didn’t buy any of them. Did make the ol’ sock monkey which she ran screaming from and never touched.

You haven’t seen the commercial? It is sung to “Happy Birthday to You” and they emphasize the IhoPPPPPP — the lyric says the “B” was just a marketing gimmick.

People are damn stupid. Think about that. They can get a BaB for what, 30 or 40 bucks? So for the chance to save $25 or so they wait 6 hours? They value their time at $4/hr?
I think the same when I see long lines at Costco or Sam’s gas stations. To save 5 cents a gallon people will wait 1/2 hour? Most cars will put in at most 10 gallons. 1/2 hour for 50 cents? Ashtray change? Time is worth a buck an hour? Really?
I repeat: People are damn stupid.
Perhaps the Brits don’t know how to act on long lines which is why they had to call the cops. But like I said, this was in no way chaos

An older lady gave my wife one of those bears as a Christmas present years and years ago. I had never heard of them, and I don’t think my wife had either. The lady was going on and on about them and her collection. At 52 pounds (almost $70) - I wonder how many adults were just using the kids to get a discount on a bear for the adult?
My son’s favorite stuffed animal is one I got him at the thrift store years and years ago! At 24 he still has it.
They still do campouts the night before any new Chick-fil-A opens up. The First 100 people get a card good for 1 year (1 a week for 52 weeks) of free chicken sandwich meals.
I remember when my store opened. It snowed the day before, and rained like mad for most of the night. No one went home. When they got their cards at 6 a.m. Opening Day, the folks in line looked like drowned rats.
Check your grocery store ice cream section, I buy Baskin Robbins jamoca almond fudge ice cream there all the time, it is my absolute favorite ice cream!!! The pint containers in the stores are hot pink very easy to find!!!
No I have not seen the commercial but when the “IHOB” came out I speculated that it was probably a marketing ploy. Worked well as IHOP got a lot of free publicity.
That’s pretty hilarious. People will do anything to save a few dollars.
My observation of chaos and the police being called in was at a suburban mall in the United States. I have never seen this very (otherwise) normal, peaceful mall like this even on a Saturday afternoon. There was zero parking. People parking in places where they weren't supposed to park. More women with strollers and small children than I have ever seen in one place in my life. I even went back to the mall after the police told everyone to go home. The mall was trashed. Popcorn practically thrown on the marble floors everywhere, food wrappers everywhere, drinks spilled all over; picture the trashy aftermath of a Lefty protest in DC. I'm sure there were screaming kids with poopy diapers and others screaming that they had to go the bathroom and other greedy parents irate and "demanding" something that B-A-B ran out of in this poorly thought out disaster of a promotion. All of this, I would definitely term CHAOS.
Exactly! IF I am going to Costco (across town) to buy my usual junk, only then do I fill up at Costco but never if there is a long line (basically, any line longer than the two at the pump and one other car waiting). I don't understand some of my family that will drive across town every time they need gas. I, like you, am worth more per hour than that! Besides, all of the WaWas are usually within 3 to 5 cents.
I'm proud of my (nearly) 8 YO grandson. He wasn't upset at all, he knew it wasn't worth saving 20 bucks to wait in line 4-5 hours.
