“there were nobles of mant degrees and thousands of them were willing to accept reform. “

Baloney. They would accept “reform” as long only as it left them in the driver’s seat.

” the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view. the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god.”
Thomas Jefferson

Storm the Bastille I say!!!! Every King/Queen/Nobility type out there would make castanets out of your testicles if you openly opposed them. If you behave and accept your fate to be lorded over, you may be allowed a little food between serving in their wars. But lord how they scream about “civility” when overthrown at bayonet point.

Storm the Bastille!!! (For Lily)

Take it or leave, but many nobles did support the revolution. Louis-Philippe d'Orléans was "of the blood" and actually voted for the king to be put to death. Lafayette as mentioned served the revolution until being jailed by his fellow revolutionaries. Lepeletier was a noble and one of the most violently radical revolutionaries of the bunch.

Attitudes probably varied among the numerous flavors the new nobility and the nobless oblige and the nobility of the robe and member of the anciente regime, but many were onboard.

Actually, King Louis XVI not only was willing to accept reforms, he actually ATTEMPTED to make reforms in person. Unfortunately, most of the atheists helming the mobs thought he was too slow or less radical in his changes, and they decided to just off him. And that’s assuming the atheists heading the mobs actually CARED about reforms and just wanted ANY excuse to off the king for their own reasons.
