The MSM told lies about TET 68. The NVA never won a major battle. Maybe some think the 1st Cav got totally wiped out in the Ia Drang. I personally saw the 1st Cav Patch painted on a mountain overlooking the valley. The damn NVA were ready to surrender when Nixon called the bombing halt. Giap says so. Not once did the NVA really win until we withdrew/quit.
Tet was a disaster for the US because the public had been led to believe we were almost done; an attack of that scale (as costly as it was for the communists) was supposed to be beyond their means. The communists didn’t have to WIN battles - just fight them until the foreigners (French, US, Red Chinese) got tired and left.
